services. The purpose of this TR is to give cable operators an appropriate way to adopt IPTV services with current FTTH system recognising that optical systems are the best solution for the effective transmission of 4K and 8K video signals. This TR gives an overall, but essential information, on current IPTV systems to cable operators. It also describes a migration from the HFC to FTTH systems for effective introduction to IPTV services. In addition to present international standards and recommendations, this document describes some major technology supporting IPTV services such as unicast, multicast, ABR (Adapting Bit Rate) and MPEG-DASH. The experiment of 4K and 8K video transmission over IP, virtual STB are also described.
Working Group 2 look after EMC. We have a similar situation to part 11 with the EMC Standard BS EN 50083-2, and the EMC Directive, although this is not an IEC Standard, so the question of timing does not exist. Starting the end of January, a full discussion will consider the basis of the standard and what should be included in it. A rewrite will start once a series of questions have been answered. Included in these questions are the whole scope of the standard, test equipment, limits, relevant products, relevant communication. Following a successful new part 2, work on EN50083-8 will follow which covers EMC for systems. There is a new work item, added to the working group covering MATV system interference.
Working Group 3 “Active wideband equipment for cable networks with digital signals only” is working on part 103. This standard incorporates the requirements for systems to support DOCSIS 4.0 and, with the adjustments, to make it compatible with ANSI SCTE 279-2022. A draft of part 103 was recently issued as a CD (Committee Draft) and is currently being adjusted to take comments into account.

Working Group 5 Look after optical systems. Over the last few years this Working Group has been most productive. as can be seen from the status table below. PD IEC TR 60728-201:2024, a study of IPTV systems with examples and applications for optical broadcast
