TELECOMMUNICATIONS OPTICS AND PHOTONICS CONFERENCE
25th – 26th FEBRUARY 2025, LONDON, UK Now in its fourth successful year, the Telecommunications, Optics and Photonics Conference (TOP) has become the go- to event for the optical communications industry. Developed in conjunction with Optical Connections, the conference features presentations by top experts from academia and industry and provides excellent networking opportunities for optical and photonic component and systems manufacturers and developers, making TOP Conference a key opportunity to shape the future of optical technology. The conference took place on 25 & 26 February in London at a new location for its fourth edition - the Kia Oval.
The conference welcomed attendees from over 100 different companies and universities including: BT, Corning, EXFO; Bay Photonics; AIPT; Coherent; Infinera; Mbryonics; Meta; Nokia Bell Labs; Senko; University College London; Sheffield University; University of Southampton; Heriot-Watt University; and more. The conference featured two-days of cutting-edge insights and ground breaking discussions from top experts from academia and industry, featuring keynote addresses from Peter Winzer (Nubis Communications), David Neilson (Nokia Bell Labs), Gerald Buller (Heriot- Watt University) and Francesco Poletti (University of Southampton), plus panel sessions including a discussion on the ‘Impacts of AI/ML on future telecoms and data centre networks’, plus a session on UKRI Future Telecoms Research Hubs with
an update on four major projects led by the universities of Bristol, Cambridge, and Oxford and at Imperial College, London. The exhibition area has grown once again, now welcoming new exhibitors for 2025 including Keysight, NDFF, Wave Photonics and Elliot Scientific, alongside longtime exhibitors Diamond SA, EPIC, Laser2000 and more, with representatives on hand to share their latest technical developments with delegates. 2025 POSTER AWARD Once again, this year there an award was given for the Best Poster, as selected by the TOP Conference Committee. The award is sponsored by IET and the winner was announced at the drinks reception on Tuesday 25th February. The winner of the best poster award was Yiwen Zhang . The poster was entitled “Improving the Sensitivity of 25Gbps Avalanche Photodiodes Using the AlGaAsSb Avalanche Region.”
There was plenty to see and discuss at the TOP Conference.
