EMPOWERING YOUTH TRANSFORMING FUTURES

www.kintups.org

Our Mission The Kintups Empowerment Network is committed to ensuring that young men aged 13-21, particularly those who are system-adjacent or have experienced the juvenile justice system, are equipped with the relationships, resources, and opportunities necessary to thrive in their communities. Through a multi-tiered approach including mentorship, life coaching, vocational training, and apprenticeship programs, Kintups works to empower its youth to design and build a successful, positive future — helping them avoid further involvement in the justice system.

Why Kintups? Youth at Risk of System Involvement Kintups focuses on young men who are at risk of entering or re-entering the juvenile justice system. Many of the youth we serve face significant challenges, such as lack of mentorship, unstable home environments, and limited access to career development opportunities. By intervening early, Kintups provides the critical tools and support these young men need to make better decisions and avoid destructive life paths.

Proven Impact through Its Programs Kintups is already making a measurable impact in the lives of its participants through its programs:

Debate: Each youth participates in a structured debate program that helps them build public speaking skills, critical skills and self-advocacy capability. This builds self-confidence and their ability to navigate challenging situations in the program and more broadly in life. Apprenticeships and Mentorships: Youth gain hands-on skills in various trades, including culinary arts, automotive mechanics, and barbering, through partnerships with local businesses. Each business owner is also a mentor who helps guide them through their personal and professional challenges.

Youth Life Coaching: Youth engage in peer group and one-on-one life coaching to develop critical life skills such as conflict management, self-advocacy, and emotional regulation.

The result? Youth participants are better equipped to advocate for themselves, handle adversity, and take ownership of their futures. Our success stories reflect these positive transformations, with youth reporting increased self-esteem, improved decision-making, and strengthened community ties.

Our Critical Success Factor Produces Early Results Kintups early success factor has been rooted in the strategy and role we’ve created – our youth consultants. These are young men that represent the population we serve who were early entrants and have guided the strategy, design of the programs. Additionally, they have identified their peers to join us for focus groups and pilot executions of our programs to provide feedback, encouragement and confirmation of the experience we’ve created. As a result, we have already begun to see a substantial uplift in the daily lives of our consultants. Their outlook on life has brightened in ways that the staff witnesses daily. They avoid, and even discuss, situations that previously might have tempted them and created risky consequences, but they opt not to because they want to set the example and not let Kintups down.

How You Can Help By partnering with Kintups, funders have the opportunity to directly impact the lives of young men who are at risk of system involvement. Your support will help expand and enhance the programs that are already creating positive change. Funding Opportunities  Program Support: Fund our mentorship, life coaching, and vocational training initiatives.  Operational Grants: Ensure the continued growth of our programs with general operating funds that support staff, training materials, and outreach.  Youth Scholarships: Provide scholarships for youth to participate in our apprenticeship programs, offering a bridge to employment opportunities.

The Need Youth involved in the juvenile justice system are often left with limited resources and few opportunities to turn their lives around. The statistics are staggering:

80% of youth in the juvenile justice system are from underserved communities with limited access to educational and vocational resources.

1 in 3 young men of color will experience some form of justice system involvement.

Kintups is here to change that narrative. By providing holistic support, we give youth the tools to succeed and thrive, breaking the cycle of poverty and incarceration.
