RE: Allocation Request Question

Committee Members,

I appreciate your question regarding my allocation request. The question of what will parking do with the $150k extra should the allocation request get funded. First, I apologize that I did not communicate fully that the $50k for salary equity is for the officers paid out of the 149 fund. The total for the salary equity for the officers is right at $195k for all twelve officers. Parking will be supporting its portion of the salary increase for the officers paid out of that fund. The officers that are currently being funded out of 149 is what the $50k is going towards. The $50k is the offset that I currently need in 149 funds to fund the salary equity increase. The other portion from the 149 fund will come from a reorganization of our department that I am in the process of completing. This will provide me with the necessary salary savings to fund the other half of 149 funds, I need to support the officers currently funded out of 149 funds. When I took over as the interim in July I was told to look at the parking fund as it starts out in the negative about $100k per year. I realized that parking funds the KITTCOM service and I believe that it is a University wide responsibility and not a parking expense. To get to your question, parking will be able to focus on more maintenance and look to the future with funds necessary to do upgrades to lots. We have a ten year maintenance plan in which the Q-14 parking lot was determined by a consultant to require a complete renovation which will cost parking approximately $1.7 million dollars in five years with a total maintenance budget for approximately $3.25 million. Currently, parking is not funded by any State dollars to renovate and upgrade parking lots.

I hope this answers your questions and please let me know if you need further clarification.

Respectfully,

Jason Berthon-Koch
