FROM CINCY TO SPACE CITY

FORK(LIFT) IN THE ROAD Carriena began her Averitt career in early 2023 as a dock associate in Cincinnati. She was looking for a stable company after her previous employer closed down. “When the pandemic happened, they kept laying us off and bringing us back,” Carriena recalls of her former job. “Then they completely closed down for good and went back overseas.” Carriena already had forklift experience, but she also wanted to get in the driver’s seat of her career. After talking with Service Center Director DARRELL MCCOMAS about our Dock-To-Driver Training Program, she completed it and was impressed with the experience. “My trainer was a great guy, and he told me I was a natural as a driver,” she says. “I told Darrell I wanted to move up, and he told me about different opportunities that Averitt has.” HELLO, HOUSTON Because Carriena has family in the Houston area, she wanted to move there and stay with our team. She got further encouragement during training at our Driver Development Center in Cookeville, as several of our Truckload drivers gave her more information about our service center there. “When I came to Tennessee, I met other over-the-road drivers from different places, and they all had good things to say,” Carriena explains. “They said, ‘You’ll love it down there.’ I wanted to see if the environment was the same at a different facility.” So in late 2023, she transferred to Houston and worked as a CDL-A qualified Houston Associate Takes Advantage Of Dock-To-Driver Training Program Something we take pride in is our ability to offer unique career opportunities that fit whatever stage of life you’re in. One example is Houston city driver CARRIENA BELL, who has taken advantage of our Dock-To-Driver Training Program and transferred within our network.

Houston city driver CARRIENA BELL completed our Dock-To-Driver Training Program and transferred within our network to move closer to family.

dock associate. And late last year, Carriena moved into her new role as a city driver. Carriena is glad she took the leap of faith for her career, and she gives a lot of credit to SCOTT HARRIS , our former Houston Service Center Director who was recently promoted to Regional Vice President of Sales. “I’ve thanked Scott a lot because he gave me an opportunity,” she says. “He gave me a lot of good information when I was moving and helped me out because I didn’t know a lot about the area. I feel like Averitt hires the right people in leadership and has people who care. Whatever they need, I try to do. And that’s because I feel like Averitt has my back.” CULTURE IN ACTION Carriena says our family culture has proven to be the real deal throughout her time with Averitt. “Averitt doesn’t make me feel like a number. Some companies, you’re like No. 1402,” she says with a laugh. “My friend drives for a competitor, and she says she feels like just a number. When I tell her about things at Averitt, she says, ‘We don’t have that. It’s not the same.’” Carriena adds, “It’s more of a family feel at Averitt. Sometimes companies say they care about certain things, but you have to have actions behind it. From Darrell to Scott to my trainers and other leadership, they all talked with me about how long they’ve been with Averitt, how they started as drivers or in other roles. And they do what they say they’re going to do. Nobody has told me they’re going to help and then not come through.” Thank you, Carriena, for sharing your story with us, and we look forward to seeing what’s next in your Averitt career!
