King's Business - 1951-10

MISCELLANEA Rivers, like men, become crooked by following the line of least resistance. A thief kicked in the window of the Kroch Book Store, 206 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, and stole ten books val ued at $152 from a display. He ignored a copy of the Bible valued at $40. The average value of one of the stolen books was $15.20; hence, even from a monetary standpoint, the Bible which the thief ignored was worth more than any other book he stole. Just why he ignored the Bible we do not know, but it is possible that he passed it up because he didn’t think it was worth much. Too many people underestimate the value of the Bible, yet it is the Book which the Spirit of God uses to produce conviction, conversion, and consecration. All who have been saved, fed, guided, comforted and established by its con tents will join the poet and say: This Holy Book I’d rather own, Than all the gold and gems That e’er on monarch coiffure shone, And all their diadems. Nay! were the sea one chrysolite, The earth one golden ball, And diamonds all the stars of night, This Book is worth them all! — Tout M. Olson
