blessing in the address that I usually have when speaking on that subject, at the close I raised my hands to pronounce the bene diction, and as I uttered the solemn and meaningful words" it seemed (yes, it not only seemed, but it was a fact) that the Holy Spirit fell upon the people. I have spoken frequently on 1the same subject since, but I think never without the blessing o f that hqur coming to my mind. How many Christian denominations are there in the world? I do not know, for I have not seen the morning papers and do not know how many denominations may-have been formed since yesterday. The encyclopedias give various numbers. W e speak o f these denominations as “ Christian denomina tions,” because all o f them have real Chris tians in them. There is no one denomina tion that monopolizes all the true believers. The multiplicity o f denominations arises from the carnality that is so common among Christians. When one says, I am o f Paul, and another, I am o f Apollos, and another, I am. o f Luther, and another, I am o f Wesley, and another, I am of Alexander Campbell, and so on, are we not carnal? (1 Cor. 3:3, 4). But while Paul writes to the believers in Corinth that they were carnal because o f these things, never theless, he calls them, in this immediate connection, “brethren” (1 Cor. 3:1, 2). Which is the best translation of the New Testament in modern English? What is the price? The American Standard Version. It can be had for various prices, from 20 cents up. The English o f it is just as modern as that o f some o f the much advertised versions in .modern English, and it is a far more accurate and reliable translation than any o f them. The “modern” English o f the most vaunted o f all these transla tions is not so much modern as bad Eng

lish, newspaper English, and this type of “modern” English is constantly changing,: so what was modern English 'five years ago is not English at all today. But the Eng lish o f the Bible is the English that lasts and is always modern. ■ ----------- o - — — * The Correspondence School T 'H E Correspondence School o f the Bible Institute is making gratifying gains and getting excellent returns from the students enrolled. The wide-spread interest in the study o f the Bible at the present time, is being felt in this department, both in the many inquiries constantly coming in regard to the courses o f study ,and in the tense interest among the students, which is man ifested especially in the earnest letters received, many o f which propound Bible questions for solution. An interesting letter came from a student in England, who wrote that a number o f years ago he was led to Christ in a service held by Torrey and Alexander in Tourna ment Hall, Liverpool. He says he was at the very rear o f the hall and unable to get to the front with others who were accepting the Saviour. Nevertheless from that moment he began Proving God’s power to save and keep, and has since been active in church work, more recently as a local preacher, although having received no Bible training. He recently read o f the Bible Institute o f Los Angeles, and was delighted that the man through whose preaching he had been quietly saved, years ago, was the author o f Bible courses through which he might receive the needed help. There are hundreds o f Christians who should be taking advantage o f these golden opportunities to get competent help in the Bible. We shall be glad to receive the names o f any who need the practical helps the Correspondence School is able to give.
