THE KING’S BUSINESS

What an intense love Jesus had for souls. He Himself promises to make soul winners o f all those who will follow Him. It is said that Mr. Moody was asked this question by his singer: “What is the secret o f your success?” Mr. Moody had often heard that question and usually answered dt thus. “Get up and go to work.” But being asked by one o f his workers he said, “ I try to speak to some one every day about Christ outside o f my regular meetings.” His singer watched him all day but he spoke to no unsaved person until night. It was storming and as they rode in a cab to the theatre where the meetings were v. 12. Immediately. A word characteris tic o f this Gospel, setting forth as it does, the activities o f Jehovah’s Servant. The Greek word which it represents is used in Mark twenty-six times directly o f the Lord and His acts.— Comp. Bible. The Spirit driveth Him. All three synop tics intimate that the temptation followed immediately after the baptism and that it took place under the guidance o f the Spirit. — Camb. Bible. Almost everything Jesus is said to have done, was accomplished not in the power o f His own natural spirit, but the Holy Spirit. It would have been wrong for Him to enter this temptation on his own account.— Gray. The expression, “ driveth,” does not imply violence, but inti mates the energy o f that impulse on our Lord by which He was inwardly 1 con strained to retire from society.-— Inter. Bible Ency. v. 13. In the wilderness—with wild beasts. Moses and Elijah were in the wil derness being prepared for service. David also had been alone in the solitary places. None however was in the place which He took, whose eternal abode was the Father’s bosom. The wilderness and the wild beasts are the witnesses o f a marred crea tion.— Gaebelein. Does not the presence o f animals point forward -to a day when the

being held Mr. Moody was uneasy. He finally poked his head out o f the cab win dow and asked the driver to stop. Mr. Moody shouted to a man going along the street under an umbrella to come with them to the theatre meeting. He came into the cab and had no more than taken his seat before Mr. Moody said: “You are a Chris tian, I suppose.” “ No sir,” came the answer. “You want to be, don’t you?” said Mr. Moody. “Yes, sir,” said the man. “ Here, singer; pray for this man.” It is needless to say that the man confessed Christ that night in the meeting. redeemed in the millennial age shall have such dominion over the animal creation as He had. Isa. 11: 6 , 7; 65:25; Rom. 8:19-21. — Evans. Tempted o f Satan. How can a sinless person be tempted at all? Jesus did not prove in the wilderness He could not be tempted, but that He could overcome the tempter. I f it is said that Jesus, never having sinned, can have no real sympathy with sinners, the answer is two-fold. Not he who falls at the first assault feels the full force o f temptation but he who, like Jesus, resists it through long years to the end. Only the victor can help the van quished. Only He who felt the most dread ful assaults, and yet stood firm, can give the help needed by the fallen.— F. L. Anderson. v. 14. John put in prison. The silencing o f Christian ministers shall not be the sup pressing o f Christ’s Gospel. I f some be laid aside others shall be raised up, perhaps mightier than they, to carry on the same work.-^-H enry. v. 15. The time is fulfilled. God keeps time and His time is punctually fulfilled, though it tarry j>ast our time.— Henry. Repent and believe. John emphasized repentance; Jesus added faith. Both are vital and necessary.
