fish were, for the nets became so full that they began to break. They called James and John to help them. There were so many fish, they filled both boats. When Peter saw this, he knew it was the power o f God. He fell down at the feet o f the Master saying, “ O Lord, I am full o f sin; go' away and help some better man than I,” The other fishermen felt as Peter did, but the Lord said, I have chosen you to be my helpers, “ Follow Me.” “ Don’t be' afraid, and I will make you fishers o f men." When they got to the shore they left -someone else take care of the fish and left everything to follow the Lord Jesus. He went about doing good, and they watched and obeyed Him. When He went away they kept right on fishing for men as He had taught them. Peter, Andrew, James and John have long ago gone to be with the Lord Jesus; but you and I and all who love and obey Him have answered His call, “ Follow Me.” Prayer.—Thanking Him for letting us be His helpers.

four were good friends and often worked together. One day the Lord Jesus came to the lake shore near Capernaum, and a great crowd o f people followed Him. There were two boats near, one belonged to Peter and Andrew, the other to James and John, who were cleaning their nets near by. The Master asked to borrow Peter’s boat. The brothers were glad to have Him use it. Getting into it, He asked them to push out a little way from the shore where all the people could see and hear Him. As He taught them the people said, “ This teacher is sent from God, for no one ever spoke as this man.” When the Master had finished teaching, He thought o f the fishermen. He knew they had fished all night and caught noth ing. He knew how tired they were and wanted to make them happy. He said to Peter, “ Go out where the water is deep and let down the nets for fish.” Peter, who was learning to-be a helper, said, “Master, we have worked all night and have caught nothing but if You say so, we will let down the nets.” The Lord Jesus knew where the

and afterwards called them to follow Him. When the Sabhath came He went to the synagogue—the Jewish church. Teachers will find a good description o f a synagogue service in Farrar’s “Life o f Christ,” chapter 16; or in Geikie’s “ Life and Words o f Christ,” chapter 13, or in any good Bible Dictionary. Because Jesus was the Son o f God, He attended the synagogue where He could join in the public worship o f God, and in the reading and teaching o f the W ord o f God. If He went, how much more should'we go. His teaching was out- of-the-ordinary, too. Among the worshippers that day, was

Lesson connection: Luke 5:1-11 records the miraculous draft of fishes in connection with the calling o f the four. It is not mentioned by Matthew or Mark. I. Jesus at Work in the Synagogue, 21-28. After calling the four fishermen to fol low Him, Jesus went to stop in Capernaum which, from this time until the end, became His headquarters, for a reason that we shall see later. Capernaum was a busy city in His day, situated on the northwest side o f the Sea of Galilee. It was about eighty miles from Jerusalem. It was on a weekday that He went fishing with Andrew and Peter, and James and John,
