THE KING’S BUSINESS

v. 32. A t even they brought unto Him, The Sabbath ended at sunset and then the work o f moving the sick would begin.— Camb. Bible. At eve as well as morn, Jesus was at work. Men come to Jesus according to the urgency o f their want.— Selected. “MY Suppose we call this lesson today “A Sunday with Jesus.” Morning.— Capernaum was by the sea. SoVne young fellows would -have slept late, then spent the day in a jolly way with the “bunch” on the beach or at the ball game. Where did Christ go? He might have said, “ I go to church with the family when at home, but it’s different at Capernaum where folks don’t know me.” Christ had been accustomed from a child to going to church (Luke 4:16) and even among strangers He found his way to the house o f worship. The scribes who presided were often very dull and uninteresting. Did Christ think that an excuse for not attending Service? It was customary for the person presiding to invite strangers to speak if they had a message. Who spoke? Was Christ a dull speaker ? What did folks think o f the sermon? What was the ser mon? Wouldn’t you like to have been at church when Christ preached? What strange person was at church ? AYhy was he there? We must not think that all people who attend church are all that they ought to be. Every person is either controlled by Christ or by Satan(L has a clean spirit or an unclean spirit. Satan may be a bit more subdued in us than he was in this man, but he is sure to reveal himself in selfishness, pride, or ill- temper. Whom did he say Christ was ? Probably few had discovered that Christ was God on earth. But Satan knew it. He als 6 knew why Christ had come (v. 24; 1 John 3:8). The moment you surrender to Christ you become His and He pos sesses you. Satan will not leave you will-

v. 34. Suffered not demons to speak. Any help which might have come to Him from the lips o f hell was revolting to our Lord. Some rej ect no advantage which the evil deeds o f others may bestow. Jesus regards as contamination whatever help fraud can yield.— Exp. Bible.

GIRLS” ingly nor without struggle. Satan may be mighty but Christ is Almighty and must be obeyed (Matt. 28:19; Eph. 1:20-22)., Afternoon. —It was kind o f Peter to take this young stranger home with him after church. Often young folks away from home are lonesome on Sunday afternoons. If only the Christian folks would open their homes to the boys and girls away from home, or who have no homes, many a life would be rescued. A great blessing came to Peter and his family because he took Christ home. Every home needs Christ. It’s in the home we lay off all display and show our real selves. W e are very courteous to strangers, but with the folks we -love best we are often cross, cranky and selfish. Mr. and Mrs. Peter did just what we all should do when we are worried and anxious, “they tell Him o f her.” Observe what Jesus did: (1) He came. Christ never refuses us when we, his chil dren, call (John 15:7). Had Peter been a scoffer it would have been presuming to have called Christ only when they were in trouble. (2) He “lifted her up.” Christ always lifts up. The burden and anxiety - were lifted. The mother was lifted phys ically also. The suffering and pain were instantly lifted. I f Christ creates the body can He not remake it and meet its needs? (Col. 1 :16). He can and often does heai immediately, yet it may not always be His, will to bring relief (2 Cor. 12:7-9).' How did this mother show her gratitude to Christ? Perhaps she helped with the sup per. Doubtless this happy group sat long about the table thanking and praising God
