MARCH 2023
I’m Now a Father of 2 Girls WELCOME TO THE WORLD, REBECCA!
Fatherhood is like a roller coaster. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into when Priscila and I had Isabella. When she was born, it was my first experience with babies. Thankfully, I had Priscila by my side — she was ahead of the game and very organized! Before Isabella was born, my wife ensured we had clothes, diapers, tables, and a bed. Whatever our daughter needed, Priscilla was on it! Because Isabella was my and Priscila’s first child, we had many trials and errors. But now, we have a system that works seamlessly. This time around with Rebecca, we are more prepared than ever because we know what to expect. Fortunately, we get to repurpose many of the items we used with Isabella for Rebecca — good thing we didn’t get rid of all the baby clothes and supplies! We were so excited to welcome our second daughter to the world.
Priscila went into false labor — she began to experience sharp pains and contractions. We immediately packed our things and drove to Dothan to see what was happening. When we arrived at the hospital, our OB informed us that Priscila wasn’t dilating and was experiencing false labor. Two days later, Priscila felt a sharp pain after we ate dinner and was spotting blood. The time had finally arrived — my wife was in labor! We dropped Isabella off with our neighbors so she wouldn’t have to take the hour-and-a-half drive with us or sit in the waiting room as we anxiously awaited Rebecca’s arrival. Once Priscila and I got to the hospital, the nurse informed us that she was 3 or 4 centimeters dilated — this was what we were all waiting for! While I was filled with excitement, I was also nervous. I was worried about my wife and daughter and wanted everything to run smoothly.
they interact with each other and the inseparable bond they create. I’m going to enjoy the experiences I have with both of my girls because I know that in a blink of an eye, they won’t be this little again. Speaking of my daughters, did I mention that their birthdays are only a day apart? Isabella’s birthday is Jan. 18, and Rebecca’s is Jan. 19! I told my cousin I would need a savings account for all these birthdays. And not only are my daughters born in January, but also Priscila’s birthday is on the 4th, and my mom’s is on the 25th. Hopefully, Isabella and Rebecca won’t mind having a joint birthday party for a few years. While fatherhood is a roller coaster, full of ups and downs, I love every minute of it. It’s a lot of work and responsibility, but it’s so rewarding. With one child, you only dip your toe in the water. But with two, it’s like you’re in the deep end — but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m so grateful for my growing family, and I look forward to the experience we create and what the future has in store for us.
Our delivery experience was quite eventful! A few days before Rebecca was born,
And it did! On Jan. 19, 2023, I became the father of two beautiful girls.
Both Priscila and Rebecca were safe and healthy after the birth, and I was ecstatic to bring them home and introduce Isabella to her baby sister. When Isabella finally met her sister, she was so fascinated with her. She’s always saying “baby” and wants to help us care for her — it’s heartwarming to see how loving Isabella is with her sister. Having two kids is a lot of fun! I’m happy that Isabella has a built-in friend and playmate. I look forward to seeing how

PT CAN TREAT CHRONIC HEADACHES A PAIN IN THE WHAT?
We all experience headaches now and then, and we usually consider them a mild problem, easily handled with over-the- counter medications. But when headaches become chronic, they can upend a person’s life. Perhaps surprisingly, physical therapy can help in many cases. After determining the type of headaches a person is experiencing, a qualified physical therapist can often construct a treatment plan to reduce the pain and improve a patient’s quality of life. Tension headaches are the most common cause of head pain, and many believe they are caused solely by stress or anxiety. But while your emotional state can undoubtedly contribute to the intensity of a headache, your neck muscles are the real culprit.
Neck muscles just beneath the base of your skull can spasm when placed under stress by poor posture, osteoarthritis, or injury. The spasms initiate a tugging movement, which causes irritation and leads to a pounding or aching sensation in the head. The amount of stress on the muscles may seem small — like working at a computer or frequently looking down at your cellphone — but it can significantly impact your ability to comfortably complete daily tasks. Cervicogenic headaches are another common type of headache that originates in the neck, this time in the upper spine. Damage to the spine’s nerves, discs, and joints can cause pain that spreads upwards. While these headaches often start as occasional events, they can become more frequent with time.
Since musculoskeletal issues cause these headaches, physical therapy can help relieve the strain. Depending on your specific condition, your physical therapist may work with you to improve your neck mobility, strength, or posture. With better spine alignment, tension and cervicogenic headaches typically become less frequent. Meanwhile, myofascial release therapy can help loosen your muscles to reduce the impact of a headache. Physical therapy cannot treat every type of headache, but it can probably help more than you imagine. For example, physical therapy techniques can help lessen pain during a migraine, and manual therapy may help treat cluster headaches. Your physical therapist will also refer you to another health care provider if physical therapy is insufficient to address the problem. In the end, you’ve got nothing to lose by trying physical therapy — except, perhaps, your chronic head pain.
BRAIN INJURIES CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME Even if You Didn’t Hit Your Head!
thoughts and sentences, memory loss, sensory issues, and nausea.
Moderate to severe symptoms include clear fluid draining from your ears or nose, dilated pupils in one or both eyes, depression, nausea and vomiting, difficulty speaking or walking, confusion, and combative behavior. Keep in mind that it can take days, weeks, or even months for some of these symptoms to appear. If you were in an accident and received injuries, it’s best to consult medical professionals and a personal injury attorney (like us!) for the actions you should take moving forward. You could be compensated for economic, noneconomic, and punitive damages. We here at the Law Office of William F. Underwood would be happy to review your case, guide you in the right direction, and get you the compensation you deserve. While no amount of money will make your injuries or experience disappear, it can help provide some cushion for the financial hardships you may face.
Did you know more than 28,000 brain injury cases are reported each year in Georgia? Brain injuries can occur during various activities, such as motor vehicle crashes, slips and falls, bicycle accidents, and recreational sports. However, some people may think they will only receive a brain injury if they hit their heads, but that’s not the case. You can be in any accident and still cause harm to your brain. For example, let’s say you were driving your car at 55 mph and someone pulled out in front of you. When your vehicle hits their car, you will come to a complete stop. While you may not hit your head, the sudden shift in speed from 55 to 0 can cause your brain to push against the side of your skull.
Unfortunately, brain injury symptoms can occur in the future — perhaps after your case is settled. That’s why it’s imperative to work with a seasoned personal injury attorney who can help you take the proper steps to ensure you don’t have any underlying damage and get the compensation you deserve. In honor of March being Brain Injury Awareness Month, here are some signs to look out for if you believe you've suffered head trauma due to an accident.
Common Symptoms
For mild head injuries, you could experience issues with coordination, excessive sleep, changes in mood, difficulty creating

IT’S A LONG PROCESS
WHY ARE PERSONAL INJURY SETTLEMENTS DELAYED?
“How long will my personal injury claim take?” This is a question you may think of as you file a claim due to an injury you receive from an accident. While most accident claims can conclude during mediation, the timeline for settling varies depending on several factors. Sometimes, delays can occur, which can prolong the process.
Here are two main reasons your injury settlement may be delayed.
You need to collect medical treatment records and bills. After an accident, your health care professional will run different tests to see the lasting effects of your injuries. The length of this process varies depending on the gravity of your wounds. You may have to conduct various tests and screenings so you and your doctors can better understand your pain and how to treat it. While you want to collect documents regarding your expenses, ambulance rides, surgery, and follow-up care, you also want to consider future exams. Additionally, if you’re still in the healing process, you don’t want to settle prematurely and find that other issues arise. Because of this, it’s recommended that you reach maximum medical improvement. A large amount of money is on the table. If your claim has significant damages and money, the opposing insurance company may delay paying until they are certain your injuries and damages are legitimate. You will have to convince the

Some insurance providers will prolong the claim for as long as possible to see if you will settle early. They understand the gravity of your situation and the financial burden you may face. 6 FUN FACTS ABOUT ST. PATRICK’S DAY ‘IRISH I KNEW THAT SOONER!’
He didn’t banish snakes. Legend has it that St. Patrick banished all of the snakes from Ireland. In fact, even some portraits depict him doing so. However, fossil records show that snakes were never present in Ireland around his lifetime. Corned beef and cabbage originated in America. On March 17, everyone loads up on corned beef and cabbage in celebration, but did you know that in Ireland, they ate ham and cabbage, and the corned beef tradition actually began in America? In the 19th century, Irish Americans bought leftover corned beef from ships returning from China. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade happened in America. Many believe that St. Patrick’s Day was first celebrated in Ireland, but in 1737, the first St. Patrick’s Day parades actually took place in Boston and New York City.
Year after year, we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with green shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold, and Lucky Charms, but did you know that St. Patrick was actually British? Even more surprising, St. Patrick isn’t even his real name!
Get ready to celebrate the luck of the Irish while impressing others with some fun St. Patrick’s Day trivia.
The man’s British roots run deep. St. Patrick isn’t Irish — he was born in Britain around the end of the fourth century. Legend has it that at 16 years old, he was kidnapped and sold into slavery by Irish raiders. After six years, he was able to escape back to Britain and returned to Ireland much later as a Christian missionary. Ireland named him the country’s patron saint after he passed away. March 17 isn’t St. Patrick’s birthday. Many believe that we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on his birthday, but it’s actually the day he died in 461 A.D. That’s not his name. As mentioned earlier, St. Patrick is not his real name! When he became a bishop, Maewyn Succat changed his name to Patrick.
