Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

Knowledge: Components of fitness, fitness testing, training principles, and rules, tactics, and techniques of selected sports. Practical skills: Safe fitness testing, effective performance in individual and team sports, and personal fitness planning and review. Transferable skills: Communication, teamwork, leadership, organisation, time management, and reflection.

What will I learn?

Learners gain an understanding of the requirements of fitness testing and training, learn how to conduct a range of fitness tests for different components of fitness safely Learners will consider how personal training programmes can be used to improve personal health and fitness. Learners will study the rules, regulations, skills, techniques and tactics through participation and application of these in a team or an individual sport. Examination Structure Assignments will be set for you to complete throughout the duration of the course. These may take the form of projects where you research, plan, prepare, make and evaluate a piece of work or an activity, case study or presentation. Some of the assignments are written whilst others will be recorded. Each unit within the qualification has a specified assessment and grading criteria which are used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. The mandatory units are assessed via an assignment brief and issued by Pearson. The final optional unit will be assessed by an assignment brief that is issued by the school. Students who complete the unit, but who do not meet all the pass criteria are graded ‘unclassified’.
