Skills, Knowledge and Understanding students will develop a strong understanding relevant to the sports and physical activity sector. They learn to apply theoretical concepts such as anatomy, physiology, fitness training, and sports psychology within practical and coaching environments. Students build skills in planning, leading, and evaluating sports activities, analysing performance, conducting independent research, and meeting coursework deadlines. They will also gain an understanding of health and safety, safeguarding, professionalism, and ethical practice in sport and health
Students enrolled on this BTEC course will develop their knowledge and skills through applied, hands-on tasks and practical sports activities. Assessment is entirely coursework- based, with students required to complete assignments independently and work to short deadlines. Throughout the course, students are expected to meet deadlines and demonstrate strong organisational skills. In addition, they must consistently demonstrate the following sport- specific skills: • Effective teamwork and communication in sporting environments Personal fitness management and self- discipline Application of sports science principles in practical settings Independent research and analysis of sporting performance Active participation, leadership, and professionalism in sport and physical activity
What could these qualifications lead to?
This BTEC is equivalent to 1 International A level, which can lead to a range of opportunities in the sports sector, including: Further study in higher education, such as a degree in sport, sports science or sports management Employment within the sports and fitness industry, including roles such as sports coach, fitness instructor or sports leader Professional training in sport, fitness, and physical activity–related careers The transferable skills developed will also support progression into a wide range of career pathways across other sectors.
What will I learn?
There is 1 mandatory unit, which is assessed by a set assignment. Learners must complete and achieve a Pass or above in the mandatory unit. Learners must also complete an additional 4-5 optional units to a total of 360 guided learning hours.
