So, over the years, they have created a vibrant community lifestyle. There is a cornucopia of organized sports and other activities, from hockey to community suppers, festivals, or special fundraising events. The Embrun Community Recreation Association organizes several popular events like the annual Embrun Summer Festival, which took place mid-June this year. Orga- nized sports, evening dances, both for young and old, children’s face painting, reworks shows, a motorcycle rally, and the Fire ghters Combat Challenge were just some of the activities available for folks to enjoy during the four days of the festival. And lets not forget the JR Fitness Fun Run. Where sports are concerned, the Junior C Embrun Panthers are probably the best-known organized sports club in town, especially in the wake of their 2013-2014 championship hockey season. Last season they almost claimed the title again, pushing the Papineauville Vi- kings to the seventh game of the nals with the Vikings taking the trophy at the end. For the young and the old, there are many more recreational pursuits worth looking into in Embrun, from badminton to recreational volleyball. And with two elementary schools and one high school, there are lots of things of inte- rest for young people, where it’s hockey or ice skating in winter to soccer in the summer. Traditional boys and girls groups like Cubs and Scouts, Brownies and Guides, are also available and looking for members as is the 5 Cyclone Squadron Air Cadets group. Besides the organized afterschool sports and recreation clubs, there are also many special programs for children, youth, and families o‘ered through La Maison de la Famille. On the cultural side, La Maison des Arts o‘ers a gallery’s worth of arts programs all through the year, for both the seasoned artist and the newcomer looking to exercise their creativity. For seniors le Club Joie de vivre 50+ is always ready to welcome newmembers or drop-in visitors for any of its list of activities, programs and special events throughout the year, including a regular golf tournament, community suppers, and afternoon darts and lawn bowling. Many community service clubs have chapters in Embrun, including the Knights of Columbus, the Optimist club, Club Richelieu, and the Daughters of Isabella. They provide both opportunities to make new friends and a chance to help the community through their various charitable and service projects.
