My Animals Are Like Family THEY PLAY A MASSIVE ROLE IN MY LIFE

I couldn't imagine life without my animals. I have three pets: two dogs, Rawson and Paco, and a cat named Lenny. It's fascinating to see their personalities and how they interact with each other and with me, Priscilla, and Isabella. I'm curious to see how they will be with Rebecca once she gets older and begins engaging with them. Our little girl, Isabella, just turned 2 and loves the dogs. She always wants to play with them and be around them. She will pitch a fit if Priscilla and I feed the dogs before she wakes up or after she goes to bed. I love seeing the relationship she has with Rawson and Paco. She calls Rawson "Rara" and will call out to him and Paco when she wants to play with them. Our cat Lenny is a bit skittish around Isabella. It's mainly because she is always playing and running around, so it makes him nervous. But Lenny let Isabella touch him for the first time a few months ago. He is slowly but surely getting more comfortable around her, and I can't wait to see their relationship grow.

There's never a dull moment with our animals — especially Rawson. He's such an escape artist! He's so hard-headed, literally and figuratively. I had a wooden fence set up at my old house so Rawson couldn't run off. But he always found a way to leave the yard. At first, I had no idea how he was getting out. Then, I saw him headbutting the wooden boards until he found a loose one to go through. Now, he and Paco have an underground fence — and they definitely can't escape it!

is struggling to find homes for its animals, so I do everything I can to help them. The Humane Society is also raising money to become a no-kill shelter. So, whether you adopt an animal or donate, you are helping to save hundreds of animals! When you adopt a pet, you're giving a second chance to a deserving animal. Who knows, you may find yourself or your other pets a new best friend! Your new pet will get updated vaccinations and other treatments, so you don't have to worry about that. Everything is included in the initial adoption price. If you're interested in adopting a pet, go to our Facebook page (Facebook. com/PuttingPeopleFirst.Law) to meet our Pet of the Month. Or you can go to AlbanyHumane.org for additional animals up for adoption, upcoming events, and ways to get involved or donate. Animals bring a lot of joy into my family's life, and I can't wait to see how my girls interact with Rawson, Paco, and Lenny as they get older. Millions of animals out there are in dire need of a home. So, please consider adopting an animal if you and your loved ones want to extend your family by four legs.

All our animals were adopted. Priscilla got Paco in Brazil, Lenny was adopted from my local PetSmart, and I got Rawson when he was a puppy from a family friend whose dad is a vet. So many animals don't have a home, and I'm grateful I was able to provide a loving home for three furry friends. Because of my love for animals and my experience with adopting them, I like to share information on my Facebook page about the animals who are up for adoption from the Albany Humane Society. Showcasing the adoptable animals is something I began doing a while ago. It's something I love doing, and I hope my posts have resulted in furry friends going to their forever homes. 5 TIPS TO IMPRESS YOUR BOSS REMOTELY THE WORK-FROM-HOME LIFESTYLE

Working from home isn't just a fad — it's here to stay for many companies and their employees. For those working from home, their bosses frequently reside in a different state entirely. This means putting your skill and efforts on display may be difficult. What are some of the best ways to impress your supervisor when working remotely?

speaks volumes about your professional character. Avoid multitasking and dress professionally! Be sure to arrive on time, be prepared, and contribute to the meeting. Avoid Procrastination It’s tempting to get in a quick episode of your favorite TV show or to take a short nap instead of finishing an assignment when you’re working from home — especially when the couch is 15 feet away from you! However, if you want to get and stay ahead while working remotely, you’ll want to do your best work at home. Instead of procrastinating, buckle down and focus! Provide Updates While it’s not a great idea to flood your boss’s inbox with updates, providing quick notes to keep them in the loop on important projects, questions, or concerns is a good idea. Just remember to keep them brief.

Maintain Responsiveness Every supervisor’s main concern with

employees working from home is whether or not they are truly putting in their hours. Being responsive is the best way to show you are at the top of your game. This means having your phone on hand, checking your email frequently, and answering pings, texts, and chats. This shows you are reliable and not slacking off on the clock. Prioritize Video Calls Treating Zoom, Google Meet, or other videoconference calls as if you are in person

Practice Proactivity Proactivity is always better than reactivity. Supervisors look for team members who propose fresh ideas, go above and beyond, and nip problems in the bud before they arise. While working from home, be sure to think outside of the box to get ahead. With these tips, you’re sure to impress your boss and convince them that working from home is right for you!

We understand it can be intimidating to meet with an attorney. You may even consider completing the process on your own. However, filing a personal injury claim isn’t easy when you try to do it alone. Not only can an attorney make the process simpler, but they can also give you a greater chance of winning your case. Before you hire any attorney, you should always receive a free consultation. To make the most of your time, discover what you need to do to illustrate your circumstances clearly. Explain the accident and injury in detail. At your free consultation, most of your time will be spent detailing the cause and severity of your injury. When doing so, you’ll need to be incredibly concise. Supply all the information you can about what happened and how the injury has affected your life. The attorney will likely ask you various questions at this time to get a better understanding of your history. Just as you wouldn’t lie to your doctor, you should never be dishonest or leave out any facts with your attorney. WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE A FREE CONSULTATION?

Provide the necessary documentation. To better display your case, you’ll want to provide all the records that apply to your injury. There’s no such thing as too much evidence, so bring as much documentation as possible. This can include:

• • • • • • •

Photos of the accident or injury

Medical records

Pay stubs or W-2s to determine lost wages

Police reports

Correspondence with the insurance company

Contact information of witnesses Any expenses caused by injuries

Discuss the viability of your case. After you’ve given your account, the attorney will determine whether your case has a chance of succeeding. It’s best to know earlier than later that your case may not be strong enough to receive compensation. However, if this happens, you can always get a second opinion from a different attorney. Before hiring any attorney, you should always ask them questions about their experiences and previous cases. If you feel they’re a good match for your case, you can discuss the next steps. There’s no reason ever to feel discouraged about attending a free consultation. If you or a loved one requires legal assistance for a personal injury case, schedule a free consultation with us today at the Law Offices of William F. Underwood III P.C. at 229-888-0888.

YOU WON YOUR CASE!

NOW WHAT?

Whether you won your case via a settlement or after a court decision, you may have to wait before you can spend any of your compensation.

We Value You! At the Law Offices of William F. Underwood, III, P.C., the trust we build with our clients is our most valuable asset. To show our appreciation, we would like to thank our clients who have referred others to us since our March newsletter: Receiving Your Compensation Now, the pleasant part! Once everything has been finalized and you sign the final paperwork to complete your case, your check will be on its way. In Georgia, a settlement check can take from 2–4 weeks to arrive. Meanwhile, a check waiting for court approval can take a few months. Personal injury cases can be a time-consuming journey. That’s why we’re here to help. If you or someone you love needs legal assistance for a personal injury case, contact our expert team at 229-888-0888. For either victory, you must sign the final paperwork, including a liability release. This document asserts that you will release all claims against the other party and that you can’t file a lawsuit against them for the same claim. Financial Obligations After You Win After completing your paperwork and settling the compensation, your attorney will receive your compensation. The attorney holds the funds to help you disperse any payments required after you win your case; these are called liens. These expenses may include overdue medical bills or payments to health insurance providers that paid for your medical expenses. However, your attorney should work hard to negotiate and reduce these costs.

Final documents, liability release forms, and financial obligations are all obstacles that need to be addressed before receiving your money and officially closing your case. We’ve provided a simple guide for you to better understand the differences between closing a settlement and a court verdict, along with the post-victory process. Settlement vs. Court Verdict Winning a settlement is much more straightforward than winning your case at a trial. Court verdicts can lead to the insurance company seeking an appeal or even requesting a retrial. While this isn’t common, more time is spent on back-and-forth communication after a trial than on a settlement. Meanwhile, settlement payments usually take a few weeks once the necessary documents are completed. A settlement agreement means the other party has agreed to be liable and will provide compensation. Often, a payment due date will be included in the settlement agreement, giving you a better idea of when you will receive your compensation.

‘FREE TIME’ HELPS US SAVE OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE BEATING THE CLOCK

Time is money, as the adage goes. But author Jenny Blake believes time is our life force, making it much too precious to waste. In her 2022 book, “Free Time: Lose the Busy Work, Love Your Business,” she argues that many entrepreneurs aren’t making the most of this crucial resource and suggests sustainable changes to how many of us do business.

There’s no one-size-fits-all system for every business, but “Free Time” will help any reader discover theirs. The exercises and recommendations will give you plenty of food for thought and actionable ways to find your ideal work/life balance — which, as Blake notes in the book, is different for everyone. Business leaders are used to books and courses that promote growth at all costs. That’s fine for some, but not everyone wants to scale their business endlessly. Sometimes, small business owners want to keep their businesses small — and

Being busy has become a virtue in our culture. People who aren’t constantly busy are seen as lazy and unproductive — and no one expects an unbusy entrepreneur to be successful. But Blake turns this thinking on its head. She argues that you can build the business you want without sacrificing the rest of your life.

there’s nothing wrong with that. Blake shares that she limits her work to 30 hours a week because she values her other pursuits. The idea may sound impossible now, but there are many ways to reduce your current workload without sacrificing your continued success.

Further, many things we spend so much time on are unnecessary. Blake’s approach to conquering the hamster wheel of entrepreneurship involves creating workable systems and a winning team. Many tasks we think no one else can handle can often be automated and outsourced to others. While many entrepreneurs think their only options are to do it all or hire a small army, Blake advocates for a “delightfully tiny team” that can get more done with improved processes.

“Free Time” is for people currently bogged down with “The Burdensome B’s.” If you’re bored, bottlenecked, burned out, or buried by bureaucracy, this book will help you reclaim your life. Blake reminds us that our time is much more precious than money. Isn’t it time you learned to use yours more wisely?
