MESSAGE FROM OUR ATHLETICS DIRECTOR
Strength of the body, as well as strength of the mind, and spirit, is embraced at Warner Pacific University. Students are encouraged to participate in competitive intercollegiate athletics, campus-based intramural sports and activities, or individual approaches to personal health and well-being. About 50 percent of WPU students participate in one of 12 varsity sports, and nearly all utilize CC Perry and surrounding fields for our outdoor sports. This level of participation profoundly affects the university’s enrollment, as the quality of athletics and recreational resources factors into so many students’ decisions around their choice of college.
Warner Pacific fields varsity teams for women in basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Men participate in basketball, baseball, golf, and soccer. A coed team competes in esports — Men’s and Women’s Track and Cross Country. WPU has a proud record of competing in the national association of intercollegiate athletics, appearing 25 times in NAIA national tournaments, and having 36 athletes named NAIA all-Americans. A recent assessment and plan for the university’s recreational and sports facilities identified critical upgrades needed to strengthen the fitness and wellness resources for WPU students and student-athletes. Recent improvements in the C.C. Perry Gymnasium include resurfacing the floor and a redesigned center-court logo. New indoor and outdoor batting cages have also been Installed to serve women’s softball and men’s baseball, which began its inaugural season in spring 2025. And a generous equipment donation from WPU trustee, Joel Tallman, enhanced the weight room and fitness machines available to all students. Additional upgrades are needed to support our students fitness and recreation needs: Air Handling & Circulation - Increasingly warm summers have made the gym not only uncomfortable, but potentially dangerous for the many camps WPU holds there and other recreational activities scheduled by outside groups. Lobby Restroom - There are currently no restroom facilities on the main level and access to restrooms on the lower level are not ADA-compliant. Space is available in the lobby to install an ADA- compliant bathroom. Locker Rooms - There are three locker room areas in Perry’s lower level and all are in need of modern storage spaces along with upgrades in lighting, power outlets, and furniture. Student Rec Lounge - Perry’s lower level is also a social hub for students. Ping pong tables, sofas, and televisions provide an inviting setting for community. Donor funds would allow for improvements and upgrades, which would also make a stronger impression on prospective students and student-athletes.
