An international reputation for excellence We broaden your skills by integrating legal reasoning, teamwork and enhanced communication into our courses from the outset, building the foundations for working with clients and colleagues. We place strong emphasis on mooting – a type of legal argument that not only challenges and shapes your subject knowledge, but also stimulates your analytical, research and presentation skills. What’s more, as over half our tutors have been recruited direct from legal practice, you will be taught by qualified lawyers as well as leading academics. Learning from leading lawyers For maximum flexibility, we offer a complete range of professional courses, including part-time and distance-learning options. Teaching is of a uniformly high standard, with many of our lecturers currently practising as lawyers, and a number of them being internationally recognised experts within their specialist areas of law. To further widen and deepen the legal expertise our students can draw upon, we have a number of visiting professors, who play an active part in the life of NLS. These hugely experienced lawyers, Supreme Court judges, barristers and representatives of well-known national firms will really bring your learning to life. A real-world legal education We are extremely well-connected within the legal industry. We have a large network of professional contacts, and our professorships are sponsored by major Nottingham and London law firms, as well as leading legal publishers. Our summer schools give students the opportunity to make friends from across the world, and to experience studying law at NTU. Everyone in the Law School has the chance to take part in our International Summer School Scheme and get a real taste of the profession from a European perspective. Each of our week-long courses has a different legal focus, and whether you want to explore criminal justice in Berlin, human rights in Strasbourg or international humanitarian law or sports law Geneva, there’s something for every area of interest. Alongside a series of inspiring legal lectures, each summer school features a range of trips and social activities with students from our partner universities, as well as the time to explore the cities you visit.

Study abroad Our student exchange agreement with Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia gives two students the opportunity to study there for one semester between February and July. We are also a member of the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP), an American organisation specialising in student exchanges between universities across the world. We offer competitive scholarships (the Community Travel Scholarship Scheme), which can be used by students to fund pro bono internships both in the UK and abroad. In past years, students have used the scheme to fund placements with non-governmental organisations in Kerala, Southern India, California, and elsewhere in the USA. The experience gained can be used as part of the Year Three “Law in Practice”module.

“NTU provides plenty of opportunities to travel and gain experience abroad. Summer Schools are one way of travelling whilst at university, and can really enhance your employability.”
