sessed elites,” according to Rasmussen, 69 percent say there’s too much individual freedom in America and a ma- jority of this group thinks the federal government should be allowed to censor social media posts. “We can go on and on through all kinds of activities, but they are wild- ly out of step with the majority of the American people. While there’s concern about guns, most Americans would still prefer to live in a community where guns are allowed rather than one where guns are outlawed. Overwhelming- ly, the elites want to live where guns are outlawed. They think only government officials should be allowed to have guns and they think most voters agree with this. This is a group that is out of touch but they’re influential.” In conclusion, Rasmussen reiterated his optimism for America. “Ultimately, the reason I’m optimistic is be- cause even though the elites represent only one percent of America and have tremendous institutional power on corporate boards, media outlets, and philanthropic organi- zations, they have no real connection with America. They have cut themselves off from the rest of us and ultimately, that is a situation that cannot survive. I believe that all of us have a responsibility to fight for our founding ideals and as individuals, we need to take the steps to stand up for those ideals. If we do that, we’ll have done our part to en- sure that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from earth.”
