Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee Partners With Graphic Packaging Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, reportedly the largest sup- plier of private-label coffee and tea, has invested in new production capability to provide a new, more sustainable packaging option for coffee formats. The Boardio paperboard canister, provided by Graphic Packaging International, provides an alternative to plastic, glass, and metal containers. Recent research shows consumers want packaging that is better for the environment, and many are willing to pay more for it. The consumers surveyed preferred Boar- dio packaging over current can and bag options that dom- inate today’s retail coffee market.

Avery Dennison Expands Sustainable RFID Inlays

Avery Dennison has expanded its AD Pure range, a portfo- lio of inlays and tags that are entirely PET plastic-free. AD

Pure inlays and tags are sustainably produced with anten- na manufacturing technology. The antenna and chips are applied directly on paper, making the range 100 percent plastic-free. The inlays and tags offer carbon footprint savings of 70-90 percent compared to traditional inlay manufacturing processes, said the company, as verified by independent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) studies.

The new packaging delivers on sustainability, with: • Increased transportation efficiency, as Boardio is delivered flat. Just three trucks are required for inbound packaging vs. 56 for pre-formed cans; • A minimum of 50 percent less plastic versus Mother Parkers’ previous bag format; and • A minimum of 80 percent paperboard that is FSC certified. Boardio also carries the How2Recycle certification. Mother Parkers will begin packing roast and ground coffee in Boardio from its Fort Worth, Texas, facility in late 2024.

XSYS Launches EcoFillX To Support Sustainability

Performance that Exceeds Expectations

XSYS has introduced EcoFillX, a software feature devel- oped for ThermoFlexX imagers, which is said to reduce washout solvent usage. As a new add-on feature within MultiPlate software for ThermoFlexX imagers, EcoFillX incorporates imageable structures into the non-printing areas of the flexographic plate. Through intelligent image analysis, EcoFillX is said to populate those areas in the LAMS layer with the desig- nated pattern, leveraging the ThermoFlexX optics to expe- dite imaging.
