1. Whole-hearted Christians “With my whole heart have I sought thee” (Psa. 119:10). There are many Christian people who have only religion enough to make them uncomfortable, only enough to make re ligion to them a system of regulations, negative and positive, the reasonable ness and sweetness of which they hut partially apprehend . . . They miss the blessing that is waiting for them, just because they have not really given up themselves . . . Brethren, if you want to be happy Christians, be out-and-out ones; and if you would have your hands and your hearts filled with Christ, emp ty them of the trash that they grip so closely now.—Alexander Maclaren. 2. The Friendship of Jesus “This is my beloved, and this is my friend” (Cant. 5il6). The friendship of Jesus is lasting. Other friends may grow old and cold. It is not so with the friendship of our Saviour. Other friends may possibly misunderstand us, Jesus never. His love is the same in youth and oid age. . . . If you have lost what to you seemed everything if you find yourself friend less and alone, despised and forsaken, seek to get acquainted with this most lovely, dear, and precious Friend. —Selected. 3. Satisfied “Satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple” (Psa. 65:4). Should I climb to worldly fame, Gaining honor, wealth, and name, Should I reach the world’s desire, And at ease in wealth retire, Could my heart In peace abide? Would my soul be satisfied? Nay, in blindness once my soul Sought these for its highest goal, Till my Lord revealed to me All that He would have me be; Then I laid the world aside— Now my soul is satisfied. —James V. Reid. 4. The Promise of Rest “A promise being left us of entering into his rest” (Heb. 4:1). My Father, I understand now why it is to the “poor in spirit” that Christ promises the kingdom. The proof of my royalty is my unsatisfied soul. . . . My claim to Thee is my longing for Thee. I could not long for Thee if Thou wert not in me; my want is the shadow of Thy sunshine. I am the only creature on earth that is not content with its environment. . . . My thirst for Thee is

the cry foi “home, sweet home” ; and the cry is itself the promise that I shall enter into Thy rest.—George Matheson. Blessings in the Heavenlies “Blessed he the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heav enly places iii, Christ” (Eph. 1:3). “All aroufid you may be depress ing and difficult, . a sense that God is dealing hardly with you may stay the song of your soul; bui remember that you are yet His child,. . . that your place is beside Him in the heavenlies. Rise, my heart; thou are the child of the great King, ' Thy life is hidden with Christ in God; thine are the illimitable ages. All this is true, however thou feelest.—F. B. Meyer, Clouds “ Clouds and darkness are round about him” (Psa 97:2). The presence of clouds upon your sky, and trials in your path, is the very best evidence that you are following the pil lar of cloud, and walking in the pres ence of God. The disciples had to enter the cloud before they could behold the glQry of the transfiguration, and a little later that same cloud became the char iot to receive the ascending Lord, and it is still waiting as the chariot that will' bring His glorious appearing. —A. B. Simpson. Implicit Obedience “Hearkening unto the voice of his word” (Psa. 103:20). To the Christian, there is no argu ment so potent as God’s will. He doth not ask what shall it profit him. . . . He' simply says, “Doth my Father command it? ” And his prayer is. “O Holy Spirit, help me to obey, not because I see how it shall be good for me, but simply be cause thou commandest.” It is the Christian’s privilege to do God’s com mandments. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon. f 8, His Chosen Path "It is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jer. 10:23). He chose this path for thee; No feeble chance, nor hard, relentless fate, But love, His love, hath placed the footsteps here; Please See Inside Front Cover 5. 6. 7.
