give you a very precious message for some one else when you get into the light.—Oswald Chamber^. Confidence in the Lord "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” (Psa. 118 : 8 ). “I am the Almighty God”—El-Shad- dai, the Father-Mother God. The one thing for which we are all being disci plined is to know that God is real. As soon as God becomes real, other people become shadows. Nothing that other saints do or say can ever perturb the one who is built on God. —Oswald Chambers. Refreshing Rivers “He that believeth on me, as the scrip ture hath said, from Within him shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38, R.V.). Everywhere in human life there are withered and withering things which need to be quickened. In some lives hopes are drooping like spring blossoms that have been nipped by the frost. In other lives desires are fading, and are like plants that are suffering from thirst. If only we could look into the secret places of the souls of men, we 13. 14.

He knew the way was rough and deso late, Knew how thy heart would often sink with fear, Yet tenderly He whispered, "Child, I see This path is best for thee.” —Selected. Polished Arrows “In the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver hath he hid me” (Isa. 49:2). Before the arrow is hid in the quiver, it must be straight and polished and ready for service. The divine Archer uses only effective weapons: “Thine ar rows are sharp.” A blunt or bent arrow will not fulfill the Master s purpose. If we would be used in effective serv ice, we must be on our guard against all that would blunt our spiritual life. In the King’s service, the arrows must be sharp.—W. Mallis. 10. Too Busy to Pray . “And he' spake a parable unto them to this end, that, men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Lk. 18:1). Is it not through our belittling the importance of prayer that we fail to find time for it? If the opportunity does not come along in the natural course of events—if you do not seem to have it. then make it. How do you man age to discuss matters of great moment with men? If you do not have the time, you malke an engagement. Make an engagement with God. And then keep it.—James H. McConkey. 11. The Secret of Power "Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me . . . for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Cor. 12:9, 10). J. Wilbur Chapman once said to Gen eral William Booth, “Tell me What has been the secret of your great success?” He answered, “God has had all there was of me. There have been men with greater brains, greater opportunities than I, but from the day I had a vision of what God could do with poor old London, I made up my mind that God would have all there was of William Booth.”—J. Oswald Sanders. 12. Learning in Darkness “What I tell you in darkness, tha£ speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the house tops” (Matt. 10:27). Song birds are taught to sing in the dark, and we are put into the shadow of God’s hand until we learn to •’hear Him. “What I tell you in darkness”— watch where God puts you into dark ness, and when you are there keep your mouth shut. Are you in the dark just now? Then , . . listen, and God will 9.
