Asya is a Registered Physiotherapist with a true passion for helping people. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto where she completed the Masters of Science in Physical Therapy Degree. Prior to this, she obtained the Honours Bachelor of Science Degree with Biology and Psychology majors. Asya is dedicated to life-long learning and continuing education and has completed numerous post-professional courses, including myofascial release, K-taping, sports taping, Lynn Watson’s shoulder course, as well as Level 1 and 2 manual therapy courses for the upper and lower quadrants. Asya is working towards completing her post-professional Diploma of Advanced Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy to become a Fellow of Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapists. Asya’s expertise is in treating multiple musculoskeletal conditions in a wide variety of clients, regardless of age and level of athletic ability. Her comprehensive approach to care incorporates a hands-on approach, an individualized muscle-retraining program, and education to empower her clients. She has much success rehabilitating clients and empowering them to be active participants in their own recovery.
In her free time Asya enjoys leading an active lifestyle that involves rock-climbing, Pilates, and swimming lessons. She also enjoys listening to music, reading in English and Russian, and watching soccer.

Use hot and cold therapy appropriately to reduce inflammation. After a good workout or a day of doing chores out in the yard, your muscles will likely feel sore.
Apply ice directly to the area that hurts on and off for 20 minutesata timeduring thefirst24-72hoursafter thepain develops. After that, consider soaking in hot water, such as taking a warm bath, to further soothe your muscles. 2. Don’t underestimate the power of resting! Your body relies on sleep just as much as your brain. You need to get plentyofsleep tokeepyourstress levelataminimum—and that includesyourphysicalstress level.Aimtosleepbetween 7-9hourseverynight.Themoreactivityyouengage in, the more sleep you need. 3.Keepyourbody ingoodshapewithregularexercise. It mayseemcounter intuitive tocutdownonpainbymoving more,butexercise isa reallygoodway to reduceachesand pains. When you exercise every day, you are able to train your muscles for more movement, and thereby reduce aches and pains. There are a lot of different reasons as to why you may start feeling aches and pains. Muscle pain will occur whenever your muscles start to grow. To build more muscle mass, your muscles have to stretch, and lactic acid can pour into the lining of your muscles to cause a burning sensation. SAFE BACKPACK STRATEGIES FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS
Loading the backpack: • A child’s backpack should weigh no more than about 10% of his or her body weight. This means a student weighing 100 pounds shouldn’t wear a loaded school backpack heavier than about 10 pounds. • Load heaviest items closest to the child’s back (the back of the pack). • Arrange books and materials so they won’t slide around in the backpack. • Check what your child carries to school and brings home. Make sure the items are necessary for the day’s activities. • If the backpack is too heavy or tightly packed, your child can hand carry a book or other item outside the pack. • If the backpack is too heavy on a regular basis, consider using a book bag on wheels if your child’s school allows it. Wearing the backpack: • Distribute weight evenly by using both straps. Wearing a pack slung over one shoulder can cause a child to lean to one side, curving the spine and causing pain or discomfort.
• Select a pack with well-padded shoulder straps. Shoulders and necks have many blood vessels and nerves that can cause pain and tingling in the neck, arms, and hands when too much pressure is applied. • Adjust the shoulder straps so that the pack fits snugly on the child’s back. A pack that hangs loosely from the back can pull the child backwards and strain muscles. • Wear the waist belt if the backpack has one. This helps distribute the pack’s weight more evenly. • The bottom of the pack should rest in the curve of the lower back. It should never rest more than four inches below the child’s waistline. • School backpacks come in different sizes for different ages. Choose the right size pack for your child as well as one with enough room for necessary school items. • Only put items in your backpack that you need for the day.
