King's Business - 1966-02

558 So. Hope Street buildings and at the new La Mirada Campus. In all these years he has shown himself an excellent, an expert, and an industri ous workman. His life was one of dedication to the Lord and to whatever work He gave him to do. His dedication af fected every area of his life and his testimony was given both by life and by lip. Always his prayer was that he might be pleasing to the Lord. Like his Lord, “he went about doing good.” “Abe” Friesen was a real gentle man in every sense of the word: kind, gracious, and helpful. For years, he stood at the door of the Church of the Open Door giving to all who passed him a hearty hand shake and a warm welcome. He was a man of many talents: an inventor of musical instruments and wood working m ach ine ry , councilman, preacher, church official, personal worker. By trade he was a builder. He loved beautiful woods and found great enjoyment and delight in working with them. Not only was he a builder of buildings but also a builder of Christian character — a builder for eternity. He was honest and fair in all his dealings, always willing to stand up boldly for what he knew to be right. As the father of seven children and the grandfa ther of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his greatest joy was the knowledge that all were born-again Christians. Of him it could be said, as of Abraham of the Bible, “I know him, that he will com mand his children — and they shall keep the way of the Lord” (Gen. 18:19). There is no need to build a me morial for Abe Friesen. He built his own memorial during his lifetime. Practically every building on the Biola campus contains something that is the work of his hands. These all—from beautiful library tables to lecterns and cupboards in many classrooms — remain as testimonials of work well done. Now his work is finished. Like Paul the apostle, he could say as the time of his departure drew near,
