BIKE OR HIKE SANIBEL Biking or hiking on Sanibel is a great way to see all of the natural beauty and amenities that our island offers! Click HERE to download the "Bike or Hike Sanibel" brochure which includes a map and helpful tips on exploring our unique destinations and beautiful beaches.

E-Bikes have increased in popularity and use over the last few years. For the enjoyment of all users on the Shared Use Path, E-Bike use is allowed for Class One E-Bikes only. Class One E-Bikes require the users to pedal for electric assistance and do not have a throttle. Motorized vehicles, micromobility devices, motorized scooters, mopeds, or other vehicle not exclusively operated by human power are not permitted on the Shared Use Path (with the exception of a power-driven mobility device operated by a person disabled for mobility purposes).

Water Safety professionals recommend non-air inflated floatation devices such as U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets when parents/guardians are evaluating floatation devices for children. Air inflated floatation devices like ‘water wings’ and ‘water rings’ are likely to puncture, deflate and slip off children. Utilizing floatation devices as a standard practice for children can create a false sense of security in and around the water. An important step in drowning prevention is to enroll children in swim lessons at a young age to build water safety and basic swimming skills. Additionally, adults should always designate a ‘water watcher’ anytime children are in or around bodies of water. Additional resources can be found at: WHY ARE ONLY U.S. COAST GUARD APPROVED FLOATATION DEVICES ALLOWED AT THE SANIBEL RECREATION CENTER AQUATICS FACILITIES? WATER SAFETY
