AMERICAN HERITAGE MINIATURE DONKEY SALE
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
The Mission of the Miniature Donkey Heritage Alliance is to promote education and preservation of the Miniature Donkey Breed. Through sharing information with the public and other enthusiasts who love, raise and care for these special miniature equines, our beloved miniature donkeys.’ The goal of this sale as a fundraiser is two fold. First to provide a venue where the breeders can come and meet other like minded breeders whose goal is also to improve the breed. This allows Sellers to bring and offer their best donkeys to buyers who are looking for new bloodlines to improve their current herds. Second, to fundraise and promote this type of activity while providing education and other worthwhile activities with our goal to ensure the preservation of the breed. We not only want to promote and educate our generation of breeders, but future generations to come. Currently this year our chosen organizations are the American Donkey and Mule Society (ADMS), our donkey registry , and the Southwestern Donkey and Mule Society (SDMS) Youth Scholarship Programs. We feel this not only meets our goals but will help other nonprofits with the same goal. To our Sellers and Buyers without your faith and support in this endeavor the success of this sale would not be possible and we want to recognize you with a special ”Thank You”. Lastly I want to recognize and say, “Thank You” from your 2025 sale organizers. To all of our sponsors, donors, friends, family and volunteers who have donated their time and resources to make this kind of sale possible. Stephanie Dove, President MINIATURE DONKEY HERITAGE ALLIANCE
IN Remembrance
JACK STEINER ~ Rearview Acres
Last Fall on August 28, 2024 the Miniature Donkey World lost a dedicated member Jack Steiner from Yates Center, Kansas. Jack and his wife Linda started their venture as hobbyists with the first miniature donkeys in 1982. By 1984-1985 their hobby had grown into more than just a hobby to Jack and Linda. They named their farm and donkey business Rearview Acres. Through the years Jack made his mark in the field by breeding, buying and showing his miniature donkeys to championships. Jack was known for his wealth of knowledge and sensible approach to breeding for soundness and the best attributes we all look for today.
You will find Rearview donkeys in pedigrees of significance worldwide. Jack’s contributions and reach of influence will not be forgotten. Jack’s family said he had “no favorites; he loved each and everyone’!
KARL MILIKOWSKI ~ Foster Hill Farm
Karl Milikowski, 61 years old passed away January 17, 2025 at home due to natural causes. Karl and his wife, Kim founded Foster Hill Farm in Stafford Springs in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Through his career he bred, promoted and showed many of their donkeys to championships. Whether through his involvement in local events, the farm, or his willingness to lend a helping hand.
Karl was an anchor in his community and an ambassador for miniature donkeys. Karl was well thought of and respected by New England breeders and other miniature donkey enthusiasts he met along his life’s journey. Karl’s influence and participation with miniature donkeys was also prevalent nationally by his frequent participation, dedication and good works stretching as far as central Tennessee. Karl will be remembered for his knowledge of the miniature donkey breed and his kind and caring approach to everyone he met.

EDUCATIONAL CLINICS Friday Evening & Saturday Morning
TARA PILONERO, STAY A WHILE FARM 7:00 PM (Fri) - Basics in Hereditary Genetics
Tara Pilonero from Stay A While Farm has been breeding wooly miniature donkeys since 2007. She has been involved with research at Virginia Tech in both the Biochemistry Department and the School of Animal Science for the past 20 years. Her research specialty has been in mass spectrometry, proteomics, and metabolomics with occasional forays into genomics. She became interested in color and coat genetics as a 10-year-old kid. That lifelong
interest and her background at VT have been useful in making decisions in breeding donkeys when there is a preference for coat colors or long hair genetics. She hopes to help others understand the basic principles of Mendelian genetics including how to predict potential foal outcomes from crossing various coat colors using information derived from pedigrees to make a Punnett square. If you were busy passing notes in biology class during this lecture, this is your chance for a refresher. Bring a pen and paper (not for passing notes). We are going to have fun.
MARY NISSEN - NISSEN’S LN RANCH 9:00 AM (Sat) - Microchipping your Donkey
Mary has had a love of equines and the outdoors since a child and it has been much of her life’s work besides being a crop and livestock farmer, with husband Jon and son Jay. Over the years much done and learned - training donkeys and mules, caretaking, maintenance and refining the LN mini donkey breeding program. She believes in making the world a better place - enhancing local habitat, raising companion animals and sharing knowledge.
RICK STORY - STORYLAND MINIATURE DONKEYS 9:00 AM (Sat) - An Easy Way to Trim your Donkey’s Hooves Rick from Storyland Miniature Donkeys was shown how to trim hooves when Rick and Cindy bought their first donkeys back in 2002 and has been trimming all of their donkeys hooves ever since. A few years ago he was told how to use Frisker trimmers to trim hooves and it really seems to work well for him with their donkeys . This technique may not work for everyone, but works well for their program Rick became interested in donkeys because of his wife Cindy and it’s pretty easy to fall in love with these special animals- it didn’t take Rick long. The Story’s interest
in micro’s evolved pretty quickly after they started breeding and raising miniatures. Rick’s favorite thing about raising donkeys is seeing the Storyland breeding program evolve and seeing the results in their foals. They also have met so many special friends and mentors because of these beloved miniature donkeys.

Raya was the first jennet foal ever produced on our farm. We had plans to add her to our breeding program, however, her sire has continued to produce great foals, and we have yet to add another jack to the farm. She has a sweet and gentle personality and is great around our 3 young kids. With quality conformation, and right at 4 years old, she could immediately be added to any breeding program. Raya’s dam is one of the last top foals produced on Doc Gardner’s farm.

An ultra special jack with the right credentials! He color tested EE, is black and white and measured just 24.5” at 9.5 months. Now measuring 25” at 12 months. A half brother to Scorpion, last year’s high seller at this sale – both sired by Bit of Color. But we are strong believers in the power of the dam as well, and he has that with Claudette – high seller at 2022 NASS. It is not just that these high sellers are in his background, they were individuals that looked the part of quality just as he is showing as a yearling.

Checkers is a 7-year-old black and white jack with a proven show record. He has sired three foals. Prior to my ownership, he belonged to Cedar Oaks Farm, which was winding down its breeding program and did not register foals during that time. As a result, Checkers may not have any progeny listed with ADMS, this information was confirmed by sale management with Cedar Oaks farm manager. In 2024, Checkers competed in five shows across Texas and Oklahoma, earning: 3 Best of Breed wins | 4 Grand Champion titles | 1 Reserve Champion | 5 All-Around High Point show wins He is professionally trained by me in all phases of show classes and excels at driving, jumping, obstacle courses, trail in hand, showmanship, halter, and cones. His eager-to-please attitude makes him an outstanding and versatile performer. Checkers is also very easy to handle. He crosses water, walks over bridges, and has excellent trailer and grooming manners. He is an excellent driver. He is not spooky. He’s not aggressive, has no bad habits, and is sound and healthy. The consignor, not being a breeder, has only used him as a show donkey. If you’re seeking a jack with presence, performance, and pedigree, Checkers deserves your serious consideration.
