CWU Board of Trustees Meeting Agenda May 2026

Email: Thursday, March 19, 2026, 8:45 PM Dear Trustees,

In a divided CWU, where a majority of faculty have lost confidence in their president, we want to present to you the faculty perspective of these past five weeks. Because we do not believe that information has been consistently passed on through official channels, we are taking the radical step of contacting you directly. - On January 20, in a desperate attempt to try to stem the damage being done to our university, a group of 49 faculty members signed their names to a request for a Vote of No Confidence against President Wohlpart. It is a sign of how strongly people felt that more than four dozen people were willing to sign in the 72- hour period between the time the call for the vote was drafted and when it was submitted to the Senate, especially as efforts were made not to ask for signatures from faculty vulnerable to retribution (untenured faculty, NTTs, those up for promotion, etc.). Since then, the university community has received only one message from the President regarding the vote. - On February 10, President Wohlpart sent an email to all faculty. In it, the President included not a hint of reflection and took no responsibility for any of the problems discussed in the Petition or the Executive Committee’s findings. It also contained so many untruths and omissions that many people who read it came away trusting President Wohlpart less. The full text of the email is attached, as is a document fact - checking its claims. The results of the vote were announced the next week. - On February 19 and February 20, the results of the vote were announced. The results were more extreme than those of any No Confidence vote of schools of our size in the history of Washington State. Of 455 Faculty eligible to vote, only 34 (less than 6.3%) indicated that they have confidence in the President’s leadership. It is difficult to imagine how a leader who has such limited confidence in his leadership can effectively lead any organization. In the month since the vote, morale on campus has continued to plummet. Faculty really want the Trustees to know two things: Our students are not okay. They lack mental health resources, classes that they need, and basic necessities. Not only that, but basic legal protections are not being afforded to them. (See attached “Title IX” article from the Observer , which makes public several open secrets about how the current administration has treated women.) Our faculty are not okay. Faculty are providing more time in emotional and social support roles than ever . Faculty are spending their money on food and meals for students. (The attached “Faculty express frustration” article provides more details.) Because of Budget by Attrition decisions, the remaining faculty and staff have to take on more labor for students , to teach in overload, to run programs/departments, and to engage in the governance of the institution.
