If you were a member in 2022, your membership will automatically be renewed for 2023. A sign-up list for new members to the SMGO will be posted in the Arlington Golf Shop by 1 December 2022. If you do not want to participate in 2023, please indicate your decision to be deleted on the sign-up sheet at the ARL Golf Shop or you may contact Tim Campen at campta3435@gmail.com or (703) 901-3609. New members who may be leaving the area for the winter are encouraged to sign-up prior to departing. The 2023 dues, expected to be $110 for the season, will be set prior to the opening of the season. Dues cover the cost of lunch in the Clubhouse at the completion of each of the 14 ABCD Scrambles...best lunch deal in town!! Standard cart fees are charged for each event in which a member participates. A $10.00 entry fee for the prize pool and the cost of coffee and pastries, available before each ABCD Scramble, is collected at check-in prior to the 8:30 AM shotgun tee off.
The Senior Men’s Golf Organization (SMGO) invites all ANCC members age 50 and over to participate in our men’s senior golf program in 2023. This is organized play that develops new friendships and enhances your enjoyment of the game of golf and Club facilities. The SMGO program features an ABCD scramble at 8:30 AM typically on the first and third Wednesday of each month, at the Arlington course, commencing in April and continuing through October. Other scrambles may be scheduled during the season when play dates are available. All ANCC members are welcome regardless of their handicap.
CHANGE IN GOLF SHOP & COURSE HOURS
Please note that beginning 1 November 2022 through 31 March 2023 the Golf Shops will be open between the hours of 7:00 AM and dusk (except for Retail “T” Days – open til 7:00 PM). The golf courses will be open between the hours of 7:30 AM and dusk.
2023 NORTHERN VIRGINIA RETIRED MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION (NVRMGA) Don’t miss out on a great experience competing against other country clubs and playing a variety of local courses. If you are 50 or older and retired from at least one occupation, you are eligible to join the league. ANCC fields two separate teams which are very competitive in league play -- one at Arlington and one at Fairfax. Both teams are always looking for new players. There are 16 teams in the league, and they play each other at home and away in a season that runs from early April through mid-October. Play is on Thursday mornings and is four-ball match play with a 3-point Nassau, combined with a sweep- stakes competition. The home club provides practice balls and waives green fees. The home club also provides morning pastries, coffee, and a buffet lunch afterwards. We use handicaps in all matches and our team members have handicap indexes ranging from the single digits through the mid-thirties. As a team member, you will be assigned to play in at least a third of our matches during the season and may volunteer to play any matches to which you are not assigned.
The 2023 Army-Navy teams will be put together within the next few months and eligible ANCC members can sign up for either team. Visit the teams’ web pages on the ANCC website for signup instructions. Signups are open from now until 31 January 2023 for the Arlington Team and until 1 March 2023 for the Fairfax Team. The pages for the two teams can be found on the ANCC web site under Golf, ANCC Golf Organizations & Teams, Men’s Groups. For more information, visit the teams’ web pages. Sign-up as soon as possible! The Women’s 18-Hole Golf Organization (WGO-18) ladies once again celebrated the end of their successful year at a member’s lovely home in December. Each year during the Holiday Season, WGO-18 members contribute to the Washington, DC, Homeless Children’s Playtime Project in lieu of sharing gifts. The Playtime Project was founded in 2003 and continues to serve the homeless children of the Metropolitan area. The number of homeless children has reached 300 and sadly the numbers are growing. Through the compassion and generosity of the WGO-18 members this year, the Playtime Project received $2,850 which sponsored 57 homeless children! WGO-18: WOMEN’S 18 HOLE GOLF ORGANIZATION
Although many WGO-18 members are playing throughout the winter and organizing friendly games, we are all looking forward to the coming of the spring when play begins in earnest! If you would like to join anytime during the winter to be ready for the season start in late March/early April, please contact Membership Chair Ruth Daly at ruthadaly@verizon.net. Play Days are generally Tuesdays in Arlington and Fridays in Fairfax.
CWGO: CAREER WOMEN’S GOLF ORGANIZATION
Although our golf season is in lull, a few winter socials get-togethers are planned for winter months until the official CWGO season kicks into high gear in March. Many ladies continue to play ‘informally’ together during the winter months. The first social event was a Holiday Happy Hour in December! Look for emails for upcoming gatherings! The CWGO group wrapped up 2022 in style with a wonderful annual End Of Year dinner on 9 November. Prizes were awarded and new Board members announced as follows:
WNHGO welcomes new members throughout the year. Any female ANCC member, spouse, or dependent is eligible to join provided you have a USGA - registered handicap and are familiar with the USGA Rules of Golf. Contact Membership Chair, Maureen Carita at maureencarita@gmail. com or (703) 883-7131 with any questions. WNHGO Winter Golf is in full swing with 25 participants. Sign-up sheets are posted in the ARL and FFX Ladies’ Locker Rooms, and there’s still a lot of winter left, so feel free to sign up. A total of 10 rounds of golf must be played only at the Army Navy courses. Players are to post their scores on the grid sheets on the locker room bulletin boards. The season started 1 November and ends 31 March. For further information, email Chairman Mary Fields at fields.mary@verizon.net. WNHGO: WOMEN’S 9 HOLE GOLF ORGANIZATION
