As He went, great multitudes thronged Him, but He was not vexed or weary of their requests— “he was moved with com passion.” Oh, the loving, compassionate heart o f our Saviour! He saw more than just people. He saw their need and their longings, their helpless condition. “Then saith he unto his disciples, The har vest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few ; Pray ye therefore the Lord o f the harvest, that he will send forth labor ers into his harvest.” This is our task, for Jesus thus spoke to His Father: “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world” (John 17:18). Let us fol low Jesus’ program o f going, teaching, preaching, and healing—above all, praying. As one has well said, “What was it that sped our Lord oh His mission? What was it that held Him to the cross ? It was some thing infinitely greater than the nails—the need of which should bring the church to her knees and put on the lips of every Christian this prayer: ‘Blessed Lord, Thou who didst weep over a doomed city, Thou who didst pity and die for the unshep herded multitudes—Thou who didst love me—give me a heart like Thine.’ ” Any one who knows Christ has some thing of infinite value to impart to others. — S elected . II. T here I s a P lace There is a place where thou canst touch the eyes O f blinded men to instant perfect sight; There is a place where thou canst say, “Arise,” T o dying captives, bound in chains of night; There is a place where thou canst reach the store O f hoarded gold and free it for the L ord ; There is a place—upon some distant shore— Where thou canst send the worker or the Word— There is a place where heaven’s resist less power Responsive moves to thine insistent plea; There is a place—a silent, trusting hour— Where God Himself descends and fights for thee. Where is the blessed place—dost thou ask where ? O Soul, it is the secret place of prayer. — S elected . III. S uggestions for Y oung P eople ’ s S ocieties 1. Try a missionary auto with a baby organ for open-air work in the country. A song service—a real gospel song service with a good leader and pianist—is a good way to draw a crowd and arouse interest. 2. Survey your territory. Find out what sections within a radius of ten miles have no Sunday-school, or no religious services. Perhaps the pastors in your town would take turns in conducting services, the young people themselves forming the choir. 3. In some rural districts and in certain city areas, there are children who will not have much Christmas cheer. Why not col lect toys, clothing, etc., and make the boys and girls happy this year? 4. Visit your city missions and help with the services. One Endeavor Society in a large city church holds regular ser Leader’s Helps I. S om ething to G ive

vices once a month at several different missions and also at the jail. 5. Form a gospel team. Great blessings will result if the members are genuinely consecrated. 6. How about foreigners? Start a class to teach them English; have a boys’ club, a sewing class for the girls. Opportuni ties for giving the gospel will thus be ob tained. 7. A b ov e all, “pray .”— A nderson .
