beheld his glory.” The look in His face, the tone in His voice, the work o f His hands constantly startled men—made their hearts burn, and called them to reverence and homage. He was near them, and yet there was an infinite separateness; between the last touch of familiarity and Himself, a look, a tone, parted them. When they began to feel almost on a level with Him, some question would humble them and open the depths o f their ignorance; some word coming out of eternity made them wonder whether, after all, He was the son o f Joseph. — W illiam R obertson N icoll . In the Scriptures, the word “heart” _is used as a symbol o f the mind and will. Your heart in this sense is like one of those wireless sets that we have in our homes. There is that little switch in the center by means of which you can either have the set in action or out of action. When you have switched it on, your set is receptive of, and responsive to, those mysterious impulses which come to it through the air from far distant places. But with the switch turned off, the im pulses may be all around you, and within the very room in which you sit, but you will hear nothing. And it is possible for a mortal man, as he hears God’s will com ing to him, to deliberately close his heart to the impressions, and to decline to hear. He may hear it very imperfectly. It will likely enough be very broken in transmis sion, but yet he can hear it if he will. 7 -x-—J. The disciples experienced this transfig uring result, although I feel certain that it was only afterwards, when they looked back and compared their lives before and after Pentecost, that they really saw what had taken place. Cowardly disciples be came champions for Christ. In the very city where a few days before he had cursed and sworn and denied his Lord, Peter, who had blushed when a sharp ser vant maid charged him with being a fol lower o f Christ, now stood as bold as a lion, and confessed his Saviour, and by the power o f the Holy Ghost three thous and were converted. I believe that some o f the murderers o f Christ who had yelled, “ Crucify H im !” were converted on that day, and shouted from full hearts: “ Crown Him Lord o f all!” — L ionel B. F letcher . And then one day, Thy Word I read: “Thy will, not mine, be done,” it said; And, “He who wills to know My way Shall know the Truth” from day to day.
