In the 1960s, Founder and Chairman Daniel Levin led the development of South Commons—an ambitious 28-acre urban renewal project on Chicago’s South Side. This groundbreaking mixed-income community introduced more than 1,500 residential units, along with commercial space and a school. Building on the success of South Commons, Levin established The Habitat Company in 1971 to carry forward the development and management principles that shaped the project. More than 50 years later, The Habitat Company has grown into a diversified real estate leader with a portfolio spanning market-rate, mixed-income, affordable, condominium, mixed-use, and commercial properties.
