FROM APRIL SHOWERS TO ECONOMIC FLOWERS

Embracing Seasonal Change

Blooming flowers, chirping birds, rising temperatures, the return of baseball season, and more time spent outdoors — spring has arrived! I always look forward to April, for this gorgeous time of the year is a profound reminder of the cyclical nature of the world, where April showers promise the budding of May flowers. Year after year, we see regrowth and renewal after the dormant winter months and holiday season. It’s an exciting time to get outdoors, embrace the sun on our faces, and witness the reemergence of wildlife. This natural cycle of our seasons mirrors the fluctuations we observe in the economy — with periods of growth, maturity, and inevitable recession. Currently, we find ourselves bracing against the chill of an economic winter, a period marked by risks and a looming and long- delayed recession that has stirred unease. But, just as the certainty of spring follows the bleakness of our winters, the economic landscape promises rebirth and renewal after stagnant periods.

Rendezvous with Destiny” — an oldie, but a goodie. It delves into the economic cycles we navigate and offers a reminder that the ebb and flow of economic fortunes are not anomalies but rather an integral part of the financial ecosystem. Understanding these cycles equips us with the confidence and assurance to remain calm amidst upheaval, and draws upon lessons from the past to prepare ourselves for the future. An economic winter leads to innovation and new opportunities, which are prevalent in the spring. They mature into the summer and ultimately reach their apex in the fall, and then we lead into another economic winter. Just like our physical seasonal winters, characterized by snow and darker days, the economic winters vary in intensity and duration. However, one thing is for sure — we always come out of it. The recent economic downturns have been relatively mild, similar to brief cold spells rather than prolonged winters. However, the unpredictability of economic climates, much like the uncertainty surrounding global warming, makes it difficult to forecast the future. The distortion of economic markets, influenced by federal interventions, adds additional complexity to our predictions. Nonetheless, history has shown us that resilience and preparation are our most reliable allies in the face of adversity. By bracing for winter, we ensure our ability to revel in the guaranteed spring. This philosophy is one of the reasons why we have built so many of my clients’ savings strategies around having the ability to weather winter to get to the other side to enjoy a beautiful spring. By remaining informed and prepared, we can navigate these transitions with confidence, ready to seize the opportunities that arise in the wake of economic winters. Since we can’t all fly south for an economic winter, we have to put on our metaphorical galoshes and get through it.

SHELBY CLARK, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT STAFF SPOTLIGHT:

What do you do here at DuPont and Blumenstiel?

I started working here in February of 2022 as a receptionist, and since then my responsibilities have grown. My typical workday includes answering incoming phone calls and scheduling client appointments. I also work directly with our attorney, Jennifer Short, to draft estate planning documents, take notes in client meetings, assemble estate plan folders, and prepare documents before signing. What is something most people don’t know about you? One thing that most people don’t know about me is that I am in the process of creating a small hobby farm/homestead for my family. My husband and I own a 5-acre property in Marysville where we raise chickens and dogs. We also have horses, goats, and pigs on separate properties. My goal is to be able to create products that I can share with the community, using the resources I have at home. We are also creating a large garden and hope to eventually have an active beehive to support it. What would you say to someone thinking about creating an estate plan? I would say just do it! Before working here, I never put much thought into estate planning, but after seeing the sense of peace that families feel after signing their documents, I realized that I need to take care of my estate as well. I don’t want my two sons to have to worry about what mom or dad would want down the road.

Overcoming Emotional Decision-Making The Psychology of Investing

Investing can seem like a cold, numbers-driven endeavor dictated by market trends and financial theories. However, beneath the surface of stock tickers and economic forecasts lies a bit of a human element — the thought process and psychology of investing. Understanding and overcoming emotion-driven decision-making is crucial for investors who aim to maximize their returns and minimize unnecessary risks. The highs of a market peak can sometimes lead to euphoria and overconfidence, while the lows of a market crash can induce panic and fear. These emotions, if left unchecked, open the door for impulsive decisions, such as buying high out of greed and selling low out of fear, directly contradicting the basic principle of investing: buy low and sell high. RECOGNIZING EMOTIONAL TRIGGERS The first step in overcoming emotional decision-making is recognizing emotional triggers. Common triggers include market volatility, media hype, and the fear of missing out (FOMO), which can lead investors to make hasty decisions based on short-term trends rather than long- term potential. By identifying these triggers, investors can begin to develop strategies to counteract their influence. STRATEGIES FOR EMOTIONAL DISCIPLINE Establish a long-term plan: Having a clear, long-term investment strategy can help investors stay the course during market

fluctuations. This plan should align with individual financial goals, risk tolerance, and investment horizon.

Diversify your portfolio: Diversification can reduce the emotional stress of investing by spreading risk across different asset classes, thereby lessening the impact of any single investment’s poor performance. Avoid constant market monitoring: Obsessively checking stock prices can exacerbate emotional responses. Setting specific times to review your portfolio can help maintain a healthy distance from daily market movements. Embrace a philosophy of patience: Understanding that markets move in cycles and that patience is key to realizing the potential of investments can help mitigate impulsive reactions to short-term market changes. Seek Professional Advice: We are here to offer objective insights and guidance, to help to steer investors away from emotionally driven decisions and toward rational, well-planned strategies. By acknowledging the emotional aspects of investing and adopting strategies to overcome them, investors can enhance their decision- making process, leading to more rational, deliberate, and ultimately, more successful investment outcomes!

Escape April Showers This Spring 3 VACATIONS SPOTS TO AVOID SEASONAL GLOOM

April showers bring May flowers, but you don’t have to stick around to wait for them to bloom. Escape to these three destinations and enjoy the new life of spring without the rain. AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND, NETHERLANDS Why wait for May to see spring flowers? All April long, Holland sports the most beautiful colors in the world, and people from all over the globe go enjoy the Keukenhof Garden

Festival. This festival has occurred for 75 years, and as it’s only 30 minutes away from Amsterdam proper, you can experience the best of both worlds. Explore the thousands of tulips during the day and then spend time in the city, exploring the beautiful canals and shopping districts in the evening. Don’t worry if you miss the beautiful flowers; most of the city’s museums and hotels have tulips, too. SEVILLE, SPAIN Embark on an enchanting journey to Seville, where vibrant culture and passion come alive. Picture yourself strolling through cobblestone streets where you can immerse yourself in the parades that travel through the city during Holy Week. Brass bands build up to a beautiful celebration on Easter, and just two weeks later, the Feria de Abril begins. This fiesta is full of lively parties, even more music, and colorful costumes. Sevillanos on horseback and the clacking footwork of

flamenco dancers are captivating to watch, so don’t miss out by getting rained in.

MALTA Located to the south of mainland Europe in the Mediterranean Sea, Malta is part of an archipelago consisting of several islands, including Gozo and Comino. Because of its diverse cultures, you’ll hear Arab accents in the language as you pass Baroque architecture. Nature lovers, hikers, and landscape photographers alike can explore the rocky coastlines, impressive rock formations, and dazzling sea caves, such as the Blue Grotto (Malta), plus beautiful beaches like Ramia Bay (Gozo) and Ghajn Tuffieha Bay (Malta). However, the biggest advantage of traveling in Malta is that everything is in full bloom: green fields, blooming citrus trees, and beautiful flowers. If you go in spring, you’ll beat the tourists, too, as summer is peak season.
