Dementia-related Staff Training- FAILED (AARP SUPPORTED) Senate Bill 1572, by Senator Baxley (companion House Bill 1507, by Representative Byrd). An estimated 560,000 Floridians have Alzheimer’s disease. By 2025, the projected number of Floridians with Alzheimer’s disease is estimated to increase by 28.6 percent to 720,000 individuals. The legislation would have required all employees of nursing homes, home health agencies, nurse registries, homemaker and companion service providers, ALFs, adult family-care homes, and adult day care centers, to complete one hour of initial Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders (ADRD) training. It would have required the training to be completed within 30 days of beginning employment, instead of within three months. During the legislative session, the following votes were taken: House Finance & Facilities Subcommittee (2/3); House Health & Human Services (2/23); and Senate Health Policy (2/10).
