Guardianships - FAILED (AARP SUPPORTED) Senate Bill 1032, by Senator Burgess (companion House Bill 845, by Representative Koster). The legislation would have created the Florida Guardianship Jurisdiction Act to provide direction to courts, attorneys, guardians, and individuals when an adult guardianship proceeding involves Florida and at least one other state. The House Bill never had a hearing. During the legislative session, the following votes were taken: Senate Judiciary (1/22) and Senate Children, Families, and Elder Affairs (2/9).

Recovery of Damages in Claims for Medical Negligence - FAILED (AARP SUPPORTED) House Bill 6011, by Representative Roach (companion Senate Bill 262, by Senator Rodriguez. The legislation would have allowed a parent to recover damages for mental pain and suffering in a lawsuit against a health care provider whose medical negligence causes the death of an adult child, provided that the adult child does not have a spouse or a child under 25 years of age. The House bill passed, but never had a hearing in the Senate. During the legislative session, the following votes were taken: House Civil Justice & Property Rights Subcommittee (1/27); House Judiciary Committee (2/23); and House Floor (3/2).
