Tolbert, Jr. bestowed one of the countries highest honors upon him, “Knight Commander In The Humane Order of African Redemption”. Months after his arrival, he returned to the United States due to the long-lasting civil war in Liberia that sadly took many lives. This time when returning to the United States, GIG Seton not only made Minnesota his permanent home, he also began his Prince Hall Masonic journey by becoming one of the original members of the only Liberian Masonic Lodge in the United States, Theta Libertus Lodge #17, subordinate lodge of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Minnesota and its Jurisdiction (you do not have to be Liberian to be a member) and also becoming a member of North Star Consistory #14, were unbeknownst to him, would bring the Prince Hall Mason that was in heart all those years ago, home. GIG Seton is not only a revered member of the Liberian community back in his homeland, but here in Minnesota as well. With Minnesota being home to the largest Liberian community in the U.S., he is well known, loved and most importantly, respected. GIG Seton has been a strong pillar to not only our Masonic family in the Blue Lodge but as well as in the Consistory, especially during his time in office as Commander – In-Chief of North Star Consistory #14. He also served as Vice President of the Commanders of the Rite. GIG Seton has been extremely instrumental and encouraging of his lodge member’s aspirations of becoming members of the Scottish Rite. GIG Seton is married to the love of his life, Mrs. Sharon Bates Seton and together they have seven children, one of which is currently our junior MWPGM, Bro. Johnston J. Bates, 33º. We would like to thank them as well for sharing this truly great, humble and God fearing man with us.
