GIG Terence Berry, 33°, Chairman of our NJCOD Youth Mentoring Program gave a report on the status of the current and future youth activities. The following Valley Presidents gave their reports on the status of their Consistories and various charitable endeavors taking place within their respective Valleys: GIG Johnny Hovington,33° (Camden), GIG Charles F. Salley,33° (Plainfield), GIG Wayne D. Sloan,33° (Atlantic City), GIG Nathaniel Cromartie,33° (Newark), GIG James Mack, Jr.,33° (Trenton) and GIG Harry L. Young,33° (Asbury Park). The following officers were elected for the ensuing year of office: President: GIG Alexander Perry, Jr., 33°, Vice President: GIG James Mack, Jr., 33°, Treasurer: SGIG Charles F. Williams, 33° and Secretary: GIG Walter A. Smith, 33. After the elections, President Perry gave thanks. At the adjournment of our meeting SGIG Edward M. Brooks, II, 33° gave remarks on behalf of our SGIG Dr. Melvin J. Bazemore,33°, Sovereign Grand Commander on the work being done by the NJCOTR as well as various programs being implemented here in the Orient of New Jersey. Immediately following the NJCOTR’s meeting our visitors and the Officers and Members of the NJCOD were invited to a delicious Southern style dinner sponsored by the Deputy.

The Orient of New Jersey is pleased to share an account of the activities and programs of The New Jersey Council of Deliberation (NJCOD).

Our annual NJCOD, which was held from November 24 - 26, 2023 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, commenced promptly on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. with our NJ Commanders of the Rite’s (NJCOTR) meeting under the direction of GIG Alexander Perry, Jr., 33°, President. The NJCOTR was delighted to have had the following Illustrious Sirs in attendance at our meeting SGIG Edward M. Brooks, 33°, Secretary – General, H.E., representing SGIG Dr. Melvin J. Bazemore,33°, Sovereign Grand Commander; SGIG Rev. Hermon J. Simpson, 33°, Deputy, New York; SGIG Milton Jackson, 33°, Illinois; and SGIG Leonard A. Heard, 33°, Deputy, Pennsylvania. The Orient of New Jersey’s NJCOTR continues to promote the teachings and core values of Scottish Rite Freemasonry for the United Supreme Council and the NJCOD. GIG Perry reported that our Inaugural Summer Jazz Dinner fundraiser was a tremendous success and that some of these proceeds will enable the NJCOD to continue to assist financially with our C. Morris Cain Scholarship Awards program. President Perry stated that we exceeded all of his expectations. We are blessed to have had 164 individuals support our event and raised $13,120.00 for our NJCOTR.
