Hands-free Driving - FAILED (AARP Supported)
House Bill 1469, by Representative Tant (companion Senate Bill 1664, by Senator Rodriguez, never head a hearing). The legislation would have amended sections 316.305 & 316.306, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have expanded hands-fee driving laws by prohibiting the use of a handheld wireless device while driving, except for certain functions like activating or deactivating a feature, including hands-free accessories. It would have established penalties for violations, including noncriminal traffic infractions, with options for a driving safety program or equipment purchase to waive penalties and points for first violations. Proceeds from fines would be directed to the Emergency Medical Services Trust Fund and law enforcement would have to report violator demographics.
