Senate Bill 1452, by Senator Torres (companion House Bill 1351, by Representatives Eskamani & Salzman). The legislation would have created section 295.225, Florida Statutes. The legislation would have created the Governing Unaccredited Representatives Defrauding (GUARD) VA Benefits Act, which would have regulated and limited the compensation for which professionals, including attorneys, could receive for advising or assisting veterans with applying for veterans’ benefits. It would have designated violations as deceptive and unfair trade practices under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
