My Safe Florida Condominium Pilot Program – PASSED (AARP Supported)

House Bill 1029, by Representatives Lopez (V) & Hunschofsky (companion Senate Bill 1366, by Senator DiCeglie). The legislation creates section 215.5587, Florida Statutes, effective July 1, 2024. The legislation establishes a state-funded program for condominium associations to apply for and obtain hurricane mitigation inspections and mitigation-related grants to reduce condominium homeowners’ insurance premiums. It describes the eligibility of condominium associations, as well as the requirements for applications of both mitigation inspections and financial grants to improve the safety and weather resilience of condominiums. The program, managed by Florida’s Department of Financial Services, is responsible for ensuring the qualifications of mitigation inspectors and their compliance with established state standards.
