Financial Aid Warning status for the following payment period. During a warning period, the student is not making SAP but continues to be eligible for Title IV aid. If a student continues to fail SAP at the end of a warning period, they will lose their Title IV eligibility. There is no limit on the number of times a student can be placed in a warning status, except that the warning periods can never be consecutive. 2. Financial Aid Suspension A student who fails to regain general SAP and who has exhausted their financial aid warning status loses their federal student aid eligibility, with the option to appeal. Appeal Process A student in financial aid suspension may appeal that loss due to special or mitigating circumstances out of the student’s control. Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to the following: • Student illness or injury • Family member illness, injury, or death Students who appeal must complete WOL’s SAP Appeal Request Form within 30 days of notification of suspension. In addition, a student must provide all applicable supporting documentation. The appeal must explain why the student failed SAP and what has changed to allow the student to make SAP by the end of the probationary period.
WOL’s SAP Appeal Committee consists of staff members from the following campus departments: Financial Aid, Academics, and Student Life.
WOL’s SAP Appeal Committee will review appeals as they are received. The Appeal Committee may review the failure of any SAP measurement. As part of the appeal process, the SAP Appeal Committee may implement any of these three options: 1. Approved and placed on one payment period of Financial Aid Probation. 2. Approved and placed on Academic Plan, can span more than one payment period. 3. Denied based on circumstances. 3. Financial Aid Probation Financial Aid Probation is only available for students who can mathematically meet the general SAP standards by the end of the probationary period. If the committee approves a student’s appeal, WOL will notify the student and place them on Financial Aid Probation, which can never exceed one payment period. While on Probation, a student is not making SAP but remains eligible for federal student aid. 4. Academic Plans For students who mathematically cannot meet general SAP standards by the end of one payment period, WOL will tailor an academic plan to meet the individual student’s needs if their appeal is approved. The plan will have a defined end point (e.g., a specified date, the end of 3rd payment period, graduation, etc.) when the student meets the general SAP standards or completes the program. Academic plans can extend to several payment periods depending on the severity of the SAP issues. While on an academic plan, the student must meet the plan requirements. While on a multi-payment-period plan, the student is in probationary status during the first payment period of the plan. During subsequent payment periods in which the student is meeting the plan requirements, the student maintains SAP. The student continues to be eligible for Title IV aid as long as they are on a plan, and they meet the plan’s requirements, or they meet the general SAP standards.
