My Safe Florida Home Program (MSFH) - PASSED (AARP Supported)

House Bill 881, by Representative LaMarca (companion Senate Bill 748, by Senator Boyd). The legislation amends section 215.5586, Florida Statutes, effective July 1, 2023. The MSFH Program was created in 2006 and reestablished in 2022 to help single-family homeowners protect their homes against hurricanes by providing financial incentives for Florida residential property owners to obtain free home inspections that identify mitigation measures and provide grants make necessary improvements. The legislation improves the MSFH program by expanding the eligibility requirements to include townhomes and homes with insured values up to $700,000, requires the use of licensed inspectors with hurricane mitigation training, applies to homeowners statewide not those only in a “wind-borne debris region” and increases the amount low-income homeowners may receive from a grant.
