UCLAN - Facilities Operations Manager (Westlakes Campus)

Introduction

The University of Central Lancashire is one of the world’s Best Global Universities leading the way in modern learning. Based in the heart of the North West, the University has campuses in Preston, Burnley and West Cumbria.

The University is about to commence an exciting new phase of our ongoing Estate Strategy, and we are seeking to recruit an experienced, and professionally qualified Facilities Operations Manager to join our growing Estates and Campus Services team, based at our Westlakes Campus in Cumbria. Reporting to the Head of Estates Operations who is based at Preston, you will be the primary point of contact for all estates and facilities management services at our Westlakes Campus including: security, cleaning, catering, maintenance, caretaking, on-site H&S etc. Our Westlakes Campus consists of 3 buildings totalling approx. 7,000 square metres (gross floor area) set within approximately 15 acres of land. The buildings provide teaching, office, social, commercial, and residential accommodation to UCLan staff and students. Although most of the technical subject matter expertise will be provided by managers and supervisors reporting to you, it is important that you have a full and proper understanding of hard and soft services delivery and the associated compliance. You will receive technical and management support from the team at the main Preston Campus, however it is important to note that this role will be expected to take operational decisions at the Westlakes Campus on a day-to- day basis, including coordinating the

initial estates and facilities management response to incidents and emergencies during evenings and weekends. Your overarching aim will be to develop and maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable environment for all who study, work, or live at Westlakes Campus, including students, staff, visitors and partners – contributing to the attraction, recruitment and retention of students and staff. You will also have a sound knowledge and understanding of statutory legislation and current best practice relating to estates and facilities management. Your technical competence, qualifications and experience are vitally important to this role, however it will be your leadership style and ability to motivate and engage your team that will make you stand out above other candidates. The role offers a fantastic leadership opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual to play a key part in the continuing and future success of the University and its wider role in the North- West region. UCLAN welcomes and celebrates the rich diversity of our students, staff and our community partners. We recognise that our diversity is our strength and work hard to ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion are part of everything we do. We are committed to providing an inclusive environment where everyone can feel safe, valued and able to thrive.
