As we reflect on the second quarter of 2025, I take great pride in the collective accomplishments of our team. Among the highlights, Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri was honoured with the British Airways Holidays Customer Excellence Award 2024 , placing us among the region’s highest -rated properties. This recognition reflects your unwavering dedication to delivering heartfelt hospitality, a core value of our Shangri-La culture. Our commitment to inclusivity was further strengthened through our partnership with MRC-NECC , providing students with autism valuable opportunities to gain real-world work experience in our hotel environment. Internally, we continued our recognition initiatives, celebrating our Colleagues of the Month and the Manager of the Quarter , whose contributions exemplify excellence and care. We were also proud to be recognised in the wider hospitality industry. Chi, The Spa was awarded Favourite Facial Treatment in Abu Dhabi at the FACT Spa & Wellness Awards 2025 , while Ho Gan was named Mixologist of the Year — a distinguished achievement for our Food & Beverage team. In support of our broader corporate responsibility efforts, we commemorated Nurses Week with a meaningful visit to Salma Hospital and took part in a number of impactful community and sustainability initiatives, including World Environment Day, a charitable bedding donation campaign, and a successful blood donation drive. HOTEL UPDATES

Meet Our Fire and Life Safety Manager Anushka Chathuranga is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with over eight years of professional experience across the construction, engineering, and hospitality sectors. He has demonstrated a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and sustainable engineering practices throughout his career. Anushka began his professional journey in the construction industry, where he worked with leading international firms such as Hyundai and Keangnam from 2016 to 2023. His focus areas included mechanical and maintenance engineering, along with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management. During this period, he contributed to several landmark infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka. In 2023, he transitioned into the hospitality sector by joining Shangri-La Hambantota as the Fire and Life Safety Manager. In this role, he assumed wide-ranging responsibilities, including FLS compliance, engineering operations, preventive maintenance, energy conservation initiatives, quality assurance, and the execution of special engineering development projects. Following his successful tenure in Hambantota, Anushka was selected for a group transfer to support the Engineering team at Shangri-La and Traders Hotels. Known for his structured approach, technical acumen, and unwavering dedication to workplace safety, he continues to make valuable contributions within the Shangri-La family.

Shangri-La and Traders Hotel Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi Partners with MRC-NECC to Empower Students with Autism Through Real-Life Work Experiences We are proud to announce that our complex has officially signed a partnership with the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Special Education Operated by The New England Centre for Children (MRC-NECC), a world leader in autism education and research. This meaningful collaboration will support students with autism spectrum disorders by offering real-life work simulation experiences within our hotel. Through structured internships and guided exposure, these young learners will be empowered to build confidence and thrive in future workplace settings. As part of our ‘Do Good’ initiatives, this program is designed to equip students with the skills and confidence to thrive in inclusive work environments. We look forward to welcoming MRC-NECC students as they explore their future career paths through hands-on exposure and support from our team.

A Joyful and Creative Easter Celebration at Qaryat Al Beri

In celebration of Easter, we hosted a vibrant event that brought colleagues and guests together in the spirit of creativity and community.

The festivities began with a captivating live sand art performance by Ruwan and Bibek , showcasing intricate designs that beautifully captured the essence of Easter. This was followed by a lively Easter Egg Painting Competition , where participants expressed their artistic flair through colourful, hand-painted creations.

The event highlighted the hotels’ ongoing commitment to creating meaningful experiences that foster engagement, creativity, a nd celebration across all ages and backgrounds.

It was a memorable occasion that reflected Shangri- La’s values of heartfelt hospitality and community spirit.

International Yoga Day

SLAD and THAD marked International Yoga Day with guided yoga session, promoting mindfulness and physical well-being among colleagues. The sessions focused on breathing, stretching, and relaxation techniques.

This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a balanced and health-conscious work environment .

SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES

SLAD & THAD | Beach Clean-Up Campaign – Mother Earth Day 2025

To celebrate International Mother Earth Day and highlight the importance of protecting our environment, our amazing team from Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi came together on April 22, 2025 , for a beach clean-up campaign . Held along our hotel’s beachfront, colleagues rolled up their sleeves and cleared the area helping to create a cleaner, healt hier space for everyone. This initiative was part of our ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) efforts, showing that when we unite with purpose, we can truly make a difference. A big thank you to all the passionate volunteers who made it happen!

Recognizing Compassion in Action – Nurses Week with Salma Hospital

The hotel visited Salma Children’s Long -Term Care and Rehabilitation Hospital to honour the incredible nurses who provide unwavering care and compassion every day.

As a small token of appreciation, we sponsored a selection of snacks and refreshments to bring a moment of joy to these dedicated healthcare professionals.

It was a privilege to celebrate the spirit of nursing and express our gratitude to those who make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families. We look forward to continuing our support in the future.

International Day for Biological Diversity – 22 May 2025

In alignment with this year’s theme, “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development,” , we united across departments to reaffirm our commitment to environmental sustainability.

Our Engineering and Lifeguard teams led a garden cleanup and planting initiative in our internal green spaces. Housekeeping supported the cause by using eco-friendly cleaning sprays, while F&B contributed by utilizing sustainable takeaway boxes and eco-friendly straws. Additionally, colleagues from all areas shared personal pledges on our Commitment Board, reinforcing our dedication to protecting biodiversity and embracing nature-positive practices.

Together, we continue to grow a culture of care — for our people, our guests, and our planet.

In Celebration of World Environment Day: SLAD & THAD Unite for a Meaningful Beach Clean-Up

In celebration of World Environment Day, colleagues from SLAD and THAD joined forces for a meaningful beach clean-up.

This collaborative effort reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability and our responsibility to protect and preserve the environment.

By coming together with a shared purpose, we continue to embody Shangri- La’s values caring for our communities, respecting nature, and working towards a cleaner, greener future for all.

Charitable Donation of Bedding Items

As part of our continued commitment to community support and sustainability, Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi, have donated a selection of gently used bedding items to a local charitable organization. This initiative reflects our dedication to social responsibility and the well-being of those in need.

The items donated include: King Duvets – 18 pieces Twin Duvets – 41 pieces

King Mattress Toppers – 5 pieces Twin Mattress Toppers – 88 pieces

Soft Pillows – 152 pieces Firm Pillows – 97 pieces Twin Mattresses – 17 pieces

We are proud to support initiatives that contribute positively to the community and ensure that usable resources are repurposed for meaningful causes. This donation aligns with our values of compassion, care, and environmental mindfulness.

Advancing Our Commitment to Sustainability – Recycling Efforts

In support of Shangri- La Group’s environmental responsibility goals, SLAD and THAD continue to drive impactful waste reduction initiatives.

On 2 June 2025 , we contributed 100 kg of plastic for recycling, followed by an additional 315 kg of paper handed over to EEG (Emirates Environmental Group) on 12 June 2025 .

These efforts reflect our ongoing dedication to reducing landfill waste and promoting a circular economy. Together, we take meaningful steps toward a cleaner, greener future.

Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi Support Life-Saving Efforts Through Blood Donation Initiative

In line with Shangri- La Group’s commitment to community care and social responsibility, colleagues from Shangri-La and Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi, took part in a purposeful blood donation drive at the SEHA Hospital Blood Bank. A total of 11 colleagues volunteered to donate blood, with two of them making an extended contribution by donating blood platelets and plasma , offering vital support for patients in critical need. This heartfelt initiative not only reflects the hotels’ dedication to fostering a culture of giving, but also underscores their ongoing efforts to positively impact lives beyond the workplace.

Space Safety Training

Our Engineering colleagues attended the training session focused on the risks and safety protocols associated with working in confined spaces. The session highlighted hazard identification, emergency procedures, and the importance of proper ventilation and protective equipment.

Essential Food Safety Training (EFST) | April 22, 2025 The Essential Food Safety Training (EFST) was successfully conducted for the colleagues in Shangri-La Academy. This training reinforced key food safety practices, ensuring compliance with hygiene and safety standards in daily operations.

First Aider Certification Training As part of Shangri- La’s ongoing commitment to safety and brand standards, today’s Aider Certification Training was successfully conducted on May 28, 2025, facilitated by Kamal Ibrahim Mostafa. The session focused on essential first response skills — including CPR, wound management, and emergency preparedness — reinforcing our commitment to a safe and supportive workplace.

Shangri-La Western Tea Training

Our F&B Service colleagues recently joined a two-day Western Tea Training on June 24 and 25, 2025. The training covered the basics of tea – its history, how it's made, how to brew and serve it, and how to store it properly. A big thank you to Candyd Borja for the smooth arrangement and coordination that made this training a success.
