her so she said, “Well, I’ll go this one time; but remember, I ’ll go just this once.” Li A i Teh was so happy she trem bled, and her black eyes sparkled as she and her mother went out of the h o u s e and over to the compound. Her m o t h e r was surprised to see how nice the room was in which the service took place, and she was pleas ed when the missionary spoke kincjjy to her; but she was most interested in the story and other truths which she heard from God’s Word. After that, Li Ai Teh’s mother was glad to go to the mission. Nearly every day, this little Chinese girl and her mother begged the grand mother to go with them to the meet ings, but the grandmother’s answer always was: “No indeed, I will not even think of going to that foreign religion house.” And then the grand mother would burn an extra amount of incense to the big idol on the long, narrow table, and would bow very low before it. But now that Li Ai Teh and her mother had given their hearts to the true God, our Lord, they would not go near the idol, neither would they look at it, for they knew it was a false god. One day some bad news came to the people of Li Ai Teh’s city: the Japanese soldiers were coming into the city. Everybody was frightened. The only safe place for the people was inside the walls of the mission aries’ compound, and many, many people hurried there. Because there was nowhere else to go, Mrs. Chin went with Li Ai Teh and her mother to this safe place. Thé soldiers stole many things from the people’s houses, and they destroy ed everything they did not want for themselves. But in the missionaries’ compound the people were praying and learning new truths from God’s Word. These people were safe and well. When the enemies had left the city, the missionaries opened the big gates of the compound, and the people went back to their homes. Mrs. Chin was one of the first to leave, and she hur ried to her house to see if her posses sions were safe. The first thing she looked for was the idol—it was gone. She stood for a long time beside the long, narrow table where the idol

had been. She was puzzled and disap pointed. Suddenly, she realized how foolish she had been to put her trust in this thing made of bronze which could neither speak nor hear. She began talking right out loud: “Ai-ya! What a god! .He couldn’t even save himself. How could he possibly save me? How stupid I have been! I shall go right back to the mission and worship L i A i Teh’s God; He saved us all from those cruel soldiers.” Li Ai Teh and her mother were still at the mission. When they saw Mrs. Chin hurrying up the walk of the compound, they were puzzled. Mrs. Chin forgot all about telling them of the many precious things which had been stolen from her house; she just told them about the god who could not save himself, and about how she wanted to give her heart to the true God who had saved her, and all the other people from the enemy. A Strange Prophecy Many years before the Lord Jesus Christ came to the earth, God in spired one of His prophets to write a prophecy about something in which we ride today.
