For Those Who Have Topics I. CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP MEANS SERVICE. There is no place for selfish am bition or pride in the Christian life. The Lord J e s u s had to teach this lesson to His d i s c i p l e s again and again. God’s way up is down! “ For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth him self shall be exalted” (Lk. 14:11). The true spirit of Christian leader ship is one of unselfish, wholehearted readiness to serve. “Whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant” (Matt. 20:20-28). Note the Apostle Paul’s growth in grace: (1) 57 A.D. — “Least of the apostles” (1 Cor. 15:9, 10); (2) 62 A.D.—''‘Less than the least of all saints” (Eph. 3:8); (3) 64 A. D.— “Chief of sinners” (1 Tim, 1:15). II. QUALIFICATIONS FOR CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP. 1. Faith supported by an experience of intimate fellowship with God and with Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. 2. A growing knowledge of God’s Word and will. 3. Divine love shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,, so essential to harmonious relations with our fel lows (see 2 Peter 1:5-8). III. GROWTH IN LEADERSHIP. 1 . How do we grow? Our bodies develop as we eat proper food and take sufficient exercise. For mental and spiritual development t h e r e is also ample provision for our need. The Lord Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matt. 4:4). See also Col. 3:16. 2. We must also exercise and en gage in purposeful activity if we would benefit from the energy con tained in God’s Word. We never learn anything that we do not practice. It is not what someone else does to us or for us that counts in growth. "Ws learn by doing.” 3. Let us have a genuine interest in what we are doing for the cause of Christ, giving ourselves wholehearted ly to the task at hand, “forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (1 Cor. 15:58).
