from a country called Samaria. The people living in Jerusalem and round about, did n o t.th in k much of Sam ar itans, as th e people from Samaria were called. But th is did no t make any ‘dif ference to th is man, who was kind. We do not even know his name b u t he is always called th e “Good Sam aritan.” Pie stopped his donkey, and got down beside th e man, and found out how badly he was hu rt. Then he took out some medicine which he had and pu t on the bleeding wounds. I am sure he touched the h u rt places very gently, and did not give any more pain tnan he could help. Of course th e in ju red man could not walk, so th e kind man lifted him up and placed him on h is own donkey, w alking by his side, and took him to th e inn, a place where travelers stayed. (F inish th is very in teresting story, emphasizing th e kind ness and compassion of th e good Samar itan, how he spent tim e and money, and saw th a t th e in ju red man was properly cared for. Teach memory verse.) We see by th is story Jesus is showing us th a t our neighbor is any one who needs our help. . boy, fed th e five thousand men, besides women and children, because He did not w ant to see them go home hungry? In our story today a lawyer asked Jesus which was th e g reatest commandment of all. The answer was, “Thou sh alt love the Lord thy God.” The second, Jesus said, was “Thou sh alt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Then th e lawyer asked Jesus who his neighbor was. Jesu s told him a very in teresting story to ex plain w hat he needed to know. Once th ere was a man who sta rted on a journey from h is . home in Jerusalem down to Jericho. In those days th ere were no cars, so he walked, and th e road was rough, and very dangerous, because thieves hid themselves behind rocks along the road, and would jump out on th e trav elers and rob them . As th is man walked along th e road, some of these robbers came out from behind some rocks, and b eat th e man very cruelly, took all he had, and even took off most of his clothes. The thieves ran away leaving th e poor trav eler by the roadside, half dead. While th e poor man lay th ere suffering, a p riest of God passed by, and of course th is man should have been kind and ready to help, bu t he did not stop a t all b u t passed by on th e other side of th e road. Soon th ere came ano th er man-, called a Leyite. Le- vites were those men who helped th e priests, and did many other things about th e temple, or church. This man also passed by the in ju red man. How glad we are th a t all people are no t like th e p riest and th e Levite. P re tty soon ano th er man is seen coming down th e road, riding a donkey. This man was
