THE MOST USEFUL BOOK How marvellous is th e adap tation of Scripture for th e race for whom it was revealed! In its pages every conceiv able condition of hum an experience is reflected as in a m irror. In its words, every struggle of th e h e a rt can find ap prop riate and forceful expression. It is absolutely inexhaustible in its re sources for th e conveyance of the deep est feelings of th e soul. I t pu ts music into th e speech of th e tuneless one, and roiinds th e periods of th e un lettered into an eloquence which no o rato r can rival. I t has m artial odes to brace th e w ar rio r’s courage and gainful proverbs to teach th e m erchant wisdom: all m ental moods can rep resen t themselves in its am plitude of words. I t can tra n s late th e doubt of th e perplexed; it can articu late th e cry of th e con trite; it fills th e tongue of th e joyous w ith carols of th a n k fu l gladness; and it gives sor row words, le st grief, th a t does not speak, should whisper to th e h eart, and bid it break. Happy we, my friends, who, in all th e.v arieties of our religious life, have th is copious m anual divinely provided to our hand.-—W. M. Punshon. - g » g& BETTER THEOLOGY Said Bishop Quayle: “ I was a far mer boy, and I k ep t the New T estam ent in my trou sers back pocket. * * * And th e farm er lad, know ing nothing b u t th e west and south wind in his face, and th e blowing to and fro of th e tas- selling corn, and th e growing of the corn, and reading God’s Book ou t of doors— th a t is how I became m atricu lated to lite ra tu re and history and na tu re and astronomy, and th e wide world and th e world to comer—ju st because I had th e Bible. * * * If we would read commentaries less and tru s t in His Word more, and use our imagination, such as we have, and dream and live over it and pray over it and hope over it, we would have more sense and b etter theology. Now, th a t is th e tru th .”

Ju s t see what a wonderful memory verse we have. “Blessed is th e nation whose God is th e Lord.” Blessed means happy. Now th e nation cannot be any different from th e people who live in it. So when men and women, and boys and girls do wrong, they bring disgrace upon th e ir nation or country, and th e only way they can do rig h t is to receive Jesus as Saviour. Closing P ra y e r.^ D e a r Lord Jesus, we th ank thee for our country, and help us to make it th e best country by loving Jesus and telling others about Him. BLACKBOARD SKETCHES By E . G.
