THE K I N G ’ S . B U S I N E S S ceptable w ith God. F o r even hereunto were ye called': because Christ also su f fered for us, leaving us an example, th a t ye should follow h is steps: Who did no sin, n eith er was guile found in his mouth:. Who, when he was reviled, reviled no t again; when he suffered, he th reaten ed no t; b u t comm itted himself to him th a t judgeth righteously.” Mr. Koads in “The E astern Metho d ist” says: “ It seems impossible to get th e Unitarianized theology and th e d e stru ctiv e criticism of th e Bible to a square issue in open court. They quietly ignore all the researches and a r guments on th e really orthodox side, and go on asserting and reiteratin g th eir ancient hypotheses. Wonderful finds i n ‘ archeology since 1900 are passed over or claimed brazenly w ithout d is cussion for destructive criticism ; th e Hebrew tex t studies of W iener, Dahse, and others, are never mentioned, if known a t all. Every effort to cross- exam ine these belated repeaters of dy ing German theories in th e ligh t of stud ies of today is resisted. There are only loud protests of th e ir superior scholarship over and over.” Why is it some church members lean tow ard Christian Science simply be cause they have heard testim onies from good people to its healing powers? No one reads far in Mrs. Eddy’s w ritings w ithout finding out th a t th e first essen tia l of healing is to get the rig h t m ental a ttitu d e tow ard disease by denying its reality. The first demand of Christian Science is th a t th e .p a tie n t shall testify th a t they are no longer ill. Christian Science testim ony is deliberately falsi fied. No one is eligible to healing who will not say, “ I am well— I have no dis ease.” The Christian Scientist therer fore is no t only deceiving him self bu t making a boss lia r out of himself. We have many broad th ink ers today who pride them selves on th e ir optim is tic views abou t world conditions. Those who emphasize th e prophecies reg ard ing th e la st days are branded as hope less pessimists. H erman H. Macy in “The Gospel M inister” gives some pointed paragraphs on th e question of optim ism and pessimism: “There is a prevailing idea th a t you should never look for th e evil b u t always fo r th e good in everything and especially in the church. To look for th e evil is pessim istic they say. Do you call your den tist a pessim ist when you go to him
for an exam ination and he probes around w ith his little picks and Ideates the little cavities th a t have decay and corruption in them , and drills ou t th is putrifaction much to your disenjoy- m ent? W hat if he should look into your mouth and say, “I don’t w an t to see th e evil, I’m looking for th e good,” and compliment your nice teeth . Doubt less th a t would be your la st trip to his office. You would go to a real den tist, one th a t saw conditions as they really were. We quote from W ebster: O ptim ist -—“ One of th e opinion th a t all events are ordered for th e best.” Pessim ist—— “ One of th e opinion th a t everything is ordered, or tends to the w orst.” Real- ist— “ One who devotes his atten tion to the real as opposed to th e im aginary." According to these definitions under which name do you wish to be classed? The Bible Christian should be a rea list and devote his atten tion to things as they really are, as opposed to th e imag inary. In your n atu ra l sta te you can not do this. Your vision is distorted. I t takes th e m ighty transform ing power of God in regeneration and th e refining fire of sanctification to open your eyes so you can see things as they really are. This will tak e away all prejudice and preconceived ideas an d help you to look into th e revealed Word of God and see things th a t are obscured from th e worldly-wise, and you will not only be able to correctly discern erro r as it exists in th e world, b u t you will, as P au l -tells us, have “ the eyes of your understanding enlightened th a t ye may know w h at is th e hope of His calling and w h at th e riches of th e glory of His inheritance in th e saints, and w h at is th e greatness of His power to usward who believe.” ITS OFTEN THE CASE On a recent church bulletin th e pas to r’s theme for th e following Sunday, “W hat Is th e W orst Thing in th e W orld?” was announced in large type, and following was th e notice: “Sing ing by Our Q u artet Morning and Even ing.” ¿¡fc sjfe M S M S JUST THREE STEPS A poor man told Rowland Hill th a t the way to heaven was short, easy, and simple; comprising only th ree steps— “ou t of self, un to Christ, in to glory.”
