AN ANONYMOUS LETTER

Frequently, we get anonymous let ters here at Biola. Most generally, if they come in such a way, they are not read. We feel that if people have something to say, they shouldn’t be ashamed at least to sign their name. D. L. Moody was one time preaching when a note was handed to him at the pulpit. Thinking that it might be some urgent message for the people, he immediately opened it. He was rather taken aback when he found just the one word on the paper, “Fool.” Pausing for a moment, he explained to the audience, “Ladies and gentle men, I have received many letters in my time from people who have forgot ten to sign their name, but this is the first time I’ve ever gotten a mes sage from someone who signed his name and forgot to write the letter.” Here is an anonymous letter to Biola which reads, “Why, in your daily broadcasts, do you put in a ‘pitch’ for money? You want to be kept on the air ’til Christ comes in the air. Why do you think the physical coming of Christ is more important than the spirit of Christ in our lives? His presence 2000 years ago didn’t change the entire world of reality. What could He do if He returned? We are not fulfilling His request to follow Him by sitting in rocking QUESTIONS (continued) some conditions that are far worse than death. Q . Hayward, California. “Will you please explain Romans 12:20, ‘Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink : for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.’ This seems to suggest that we should aggravate our enemies." A. No, it certainly does not mean that at all. There are too many who carry on a “war of nerves” with others. Their lives are in a constant turmoil. God expects our love to be without

chairs waiting for His physical return. Your constantly begging for money is a worldly materialistic theology which is Pharisaism. What did Jesus say of the Pharisees? Why don’t you em phasize the fact and reality that all of God’s children are born with divin ity and divinity is to be expressed by us all.” We earnestly believe in the Lord’s soon coming return which, we say with all the fervency and emphasis of heart, is the only hope of the world. As far as a “spark of divinity," the Bible says that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” I f we say that we have not sinned we make God a liar. It is only by being bom again, and daily filled by the Holy Spirit, that we have any kind of a tes timony in this world of moral and spiritual declension. As far as support by Christian friends, we simply invite listeners and friends to share in enabling us to carry forth the ministry of our Saviour th ro u g h training earnest dedicated young people for His glory, who will be able to teach others also. We do not plead or beg, but leave the matter to God’s children. What is in vested will help us to “keep the Gos pel on the air, till Christ comes for us in the air!” hypocrisy (I John 7:9-11). We are to be tenderly affectioned one toward an other. Do not seek to avenge your selves. Give place unto the wrath of God. Let the Lord settle the matter. Paul is suggesting that we do just the opposite of what the world would do, and what the antagonist might ex pect. In this manner we will see the grace of God exemplified in our lives. Q . Highland, C a l i f o r n i a . “Are those spoken of in Hebrews 12:1 our loved ones who have gone on before us to glory?” A. There are two views concerning 20
