• Reliable Resources and Content • “The Forum on Education Abroad provides valuable resources for new and veteran Education Abroad Educators. Its sole purpose is Education Abroad and they do a stellar job keeping up with creating best practices, promoting research, leading advocacy, and setting the standards.” • Standards/Best Practices • “The ForumEA is the leader in our field and maintains the Standards for the field. They also provide the resources and training necessary to stay abreast of the latest issues in the field.” • Leader in Field of Expertise • “As I have done for years, it’s the premier institution for study abroad. The work that is done by The Forum shapes our work in the field every day.”
• Reliable Resources and Content • “It would depend on the question and the situation. NAFSA and the Forum have overlapping interests and communities, but I often reference Forum materials.” • Questionable Value for Membership • High Quality Training/Professional Development • US Centric Approach • “I LOVE the Forum -- and I think the value of membership depends on the home organization’s needs/cultures/programs. I have worked out of the US, Ecuador, Brazil, and other countries. Membership in the Forum is certainly valuable to institutions and organizations that are either based in the US (and do study abroad programs) or facilitate study abroad from outside of the US to the US. But its value is less for programs in which US institutions are not a part (such as South-South programs).”
• Too Focused on Education Abroad/Not Relevant to My Work • “The information produced by The Forum is excellent, however our small college has a very small percentage of students interested in study abroad and does not currently have any institution led programs. All study abroad is arranged through a consortium.” • Reliable Resources and Content • Insufficient Value for Membership • “It is very expensive. Most colleges do not have Study Abroad Programs or offices.” • “The Forum’s membership is based on the content it provides and the content is geared almost exclusively towards universities. Naturally the research is unique and valuable to all, however, that is available to the public.”
