Founded in 1973, Charlottesville - Albemarle Technical Education Center (CATEC) is a regional technical education center offering Adult Education and Apprenticeship programs. Training covers a range of technical education courses. Our career and technical offerings will help lifelong learners: enhance current skills, gain new knowledge for increased job marketability, continue life - long learning, make life more enjoyable, or simply have fun. CATEC provides a positive place for post - secondary learning. Apprenticeship programs are approved by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry and provide employer sponsors and their employees with the required related technical instruction hours needed to satisfy a full Apprenticeship program.

If a student’s tuition fee is sponsored by an employer or agency, confirmation of funding will be requested, but an initial deposit fee is not required by the student. 3) If you are paying as an individual you can: a) R each out via telephone to make a CC payment over the phone b) C omplete the CC authorization form and email it back to catecadultreg@k12albemarle.org. c) P ay via check in person or mail to 1000 E. Please check your email for CC Authorizations or Payment Plan Agreements if you requested either during registration, Course Updates, Course materials and access information as well as other important updates. Applications for Scholarships are due in July, October, December and March. Once your application has been submitted and reviewed we will reach out via email to let you know if you received a scholarship award. You must submit all required documents when you apply to be eligible.

Refund Policy: Online classes are non refundable . In the event a class must be cancelled, full refunds will be made. Self - pay Students:

Refund or Course Drop requests for In-person courses must be made by email 7 days prior to the class start date. No refunds given less than 7 days prior to the start of class. There are no refunds on textbooks, payment plan fees, or online courses. Refund checks will be issued if you pay by cash or check (this process can take up to 3 weeks). Credit card payments will be refunded to the same credit card.

Auto Body Repair

The Automotive Body Repair program introduces students to all aspects of the industry, including planning, management, technical, and production skills. Students prepare for non - structural analysis and damage repair, repair body panels and movable glass and hardware, and practice metal welding and cutting. Students work with a variety of materials to operate equipment, apply paint, and identify paint defects, causes, and cures. Additionally, students practice shop safety and gain workplace skills experience in preparation for entering the industry. The fall semester ( $6 45 ) focuses on Collision Repair and the spring semester ( $ 71 5) focuses on Auto Body Surface Prep and Painting. Have a car you want to work on? We welcome you to bring it in as your project!

Automotive Technology

Owning a car is expensive enough with car payments, insurance, and gas. Stop shelling out money for repairs that you could do yourself. Start taking control of your car, and learn how to keep it looking beautiful and performing flawlessly without having to spend thousands of dollars. CATEC's three - semester program offers ASE Student Certification testing available to interested students for an additional fee at the end of the third semester. Students learn all aspects of automotive repair, safety, and customer service by concentrating on the eight automotive areas needed to become an ASE - certified technician. Students extensively practice shop and personal safety and identify and demonstrate proper usage of tools and equipment. This is a Self-Paced Online certificate program is designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to begin work as a Dental Assistant. The coursework will prepare students to take an exam to become certified in Radiation Hygiene and Safety and Infection Control. Included in the curriculum are chair side procedures, infection control record keeping, pertinent biology, methodology as well as instrument and equipment care. Tuition includes textbook. $ 950 Dental Assistant

Emergency Medical Technician This hybrid EMT program prepares students to test for National Registry to provide pre - hospital care as an EMT in emergency situations. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills necessary to function as entry - level EMTs. Employment opportunities for Nationally Registered/Virginia certified EMT's include local emergency departments, rescue squads, ambulance companies, and other public and private agencies providing pre - hospital care. Tuition includes e - Book. $1 100

Certified Nurse Aide CNAs play a vital role in the healthcare team and are in critical shortage in our local community. This Board of Nursing approved Nurse Aide Education Program (120 hours in written, oral, and clinical skills) prepares students to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program licensure examination. The course consists of classroom and clinical instruction. Clinical instruction (40 hours) takes place on Saturdays, in addition to regular weekday evening classroom hours. The Virginia State Board of Nursing mandates that Nursing Assistant students MAINTAIN AN 80% GRADE AVERAGE in the CNA course. If a student completes the course work with less than an 80%, that student will not be able to continue on to clinicals and final testing. Tuition cost includes the textbook . Students are required to provide a negative result TB test record and COVID Vaccination to participate in clinicals . $1 125

Registered Medication Aide This Board of Nursing approved 68 - hour Certified Medication Aide program is designed to increase your value in the workplace. If you are a PCA, Direct Care Assistant, CNA, or have just taken a Certified Nurse Aide class, you are eligible to take this class for the opportunity to become a Registered Medication Aide. Included in the curriculum are legal and ethical issues, documentation, storage and disposal of medications, and the introduction of Pharmacology. Clinicals will take place on three Saturdays. Tuition cost includes textbook and Nursing Drug Handbook Students are required to provide a negative result TB test record and COVID Vaccination to participate in clinicals. $ 9 50

Medical Billing and Coding

Medical billing and coding is one of the fastest - growing careers in the healthcare industry today! The need for professionals who understand how to code healthcare services and procedures for third - party insurance reimbursement is growing substantially. Physician practices, hospitals, pharmacies, long - term care facilities, chiropractic practices, physical therapy practices, and other healthcare providers all depend on medical billing and coding for insurance carrier reimbursement. This billing and coding program offers the skills needed to perform complex coding and billing procedures. The program covers: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), the ICD - 10 for both diagnosis and procedure coding, and basic claims processes for insurance reimbursements. This billing and coding program delivers the skills learners need to solve insurance billing and coding problems. It details proper assignment of codes and the process to file claims for reimbursement.

Phlebotomy Technician

This program prepares learners to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Learners will become familiar with all aspects of blood collection and will review the skills needed to perform venipunctures safely. Topics in this course include medical terminology, related anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, and procedures for collection of other types of specimens within the scope of practice of the phlebotomist.

Dialysis Technician

This program provides learners the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties required of dialysis technicians. Under the supervision of physicians and registered nurses, dialysis technicians operate kidney dialysis machines, prepare dialyzer reprocessing and delivery systems, as well as maintain and repair equipment. Furthermore, technicians work with patients during dialysis procedures and monitor and record vital signs, as well as administer local anesthetics and drugs as needed.

EKG Technician

This program covers topics and processes critical to conducting and interpreting electrocardiograms (EKGs). To begin, learners will review the anatomy and physiology of the heart. From there, learners will go on to explore the technology used such as the EKG machine. Next, participants will learn how to interpret a rhythm strip. And finally, learners will discover the details of a myocardial infarction. Successful completion of this program will help prepare learners to perform the role of EKG technician.

Electronic Health Records Management

This program prepares learners to understand and use electronic records in a medical practice. Learners will review the implementation and management of electronic health information using common electronic data interchange systems and maintaining the medical, legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements of the electronic health record.

Physician’s Office Assistant This program covers information on medical administration and assistance, interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances.

Clinical Medical Assistant Designed to prepare students to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other related tasks. Job opportunities are prevalent with physician ’ s offices, clinics, chiropractor ’ s offices, hospitals and outpatient facilities.

This program offers a comprehensive study of materials that will help learners to fully understand the concepts of Agile and Scrum. The purpose of this program is to prepare students to support the IT infrastructure through installing and configuring systems to secure applications, networks, and devices as well as perform threat analysis and respond with appropriate mitigation techniques. It also prepares students to students learn to manage, maintain, troubleshoot, install, operate, and configure basic network infrastructure as well as describe networking technologies, understand basic design principles, adhere to wiring standards, and use testing tools. Students are eligible for an optional externship with a local employer after successful course completion.

Computer Technician (CompTIA A+)

This program will build upon students ’ existing user - level knowledge and experience with personal computer software and hardware in order to present fundamental concepts and techniques that technicians use every day on the job. Upon completing this course, students will gain the essential skills and technical expertise necessary to install, upgrade, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, repair and perform preventative maintenance on basic personal computer hardware and operating systems. This course is designed to fully prepare students to sit for and pass the CompTIA A+ (Core 1 and Core 2) Certification exams. Students are eligible for an optional externship with a local employer after successful course completion.

Network Technician (CompTIA Network +)

The Network Technician (CompTIA Network+) course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to become an IT network technician. Students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage, maintain, troubleshoot, install, operate, and configure basic network infrastructure as well as describe networking technologies, understand basic design principles, adhere to wiring standards, and use testing tools. Additional job titles include network technician, network installer, network administrator, help desk technician and IT cable installer. This course is designed to fully prepare students to sit for and pass the CompTIA Network+ Certification exam.

The Network Technician (CompTIA Network+) program is designed to prepare students to function as computer professionals in multiple technical, business, and healthcare settings.

Front End Web Developer

The Front - End Web Developer content introduces students to front - end, or client - side, web development technologies, including, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Participants learn how to make interactive applications that run inside a web browser and can communicate with a web server running remotely. Participants also learn how to use the version control program Git and collaboration website GitHub. Once complete, participants will have the basic skills necessary to work as a front - end web developer. The Front - End Web Developer program is designed to prepare students to function as web developers in multiple technical, business, and healthcare settings. This course is designed to fully prepare students to sit for and pass the Microsoft MTA 98 - 375 Exam. This comprehensive program offers instruction on Linux System Administration walking learners through the essential system administration tasks necessary to get up and running in Linux quickly. From there, learners will discover the Linux Command Line Interface (CLI), which is a powerful tool for users, developers, and administrators. Quick changes to a system with no Graphical Interface, such as many servers or some recovery tasks, can be accomplished with command line tools. Repetitive tasks, such as file management and local access control changes, can be done more efficiently from the command line than through a point - and - click interface. Administrative Assistant with Bookkeeping and QuickBooks

The Business Management program provides students the basic competencies involved in a leading a team whether from the very top of a company, middle management or first - line supervision. Lean Enterprise Certification

A “ Lean Enterprise ” can be defined as one that “ performs without waste. ” Despite constant efforts to the contrary, many organizations waste anywhere from 70 - 90% of available resources and staff through improper management or ineffective use of materials, time, information, equipment and inventory. The Lean Bronze Certification will help participants to overcome these difficulties by applying Lean Enterprise principles and practices throughout their own organization. Projects offered throughout the course will offer participants in - depth experience implementing all the necessary steps to achieve successful results across multiple functions and operations in any organization. Applying these principles to their own work, the Lean Bronze Certification program offers participants the chance to see how the benefits of these techniques would improve their own company or organization. Juvenile Justice Specialist

Learners will take an in - depth look at juvenile law and the unique role of the courts in these circumstances as well as the corrections systems that will apply to them. Learners will analyze the different socioeconomic considerations that must be weighed in addressing juvenile justice issues, as well as the manner in which social service agencies (treatment, child protective services, etc.) interact, aid or impede the formal juvenile justice system. This program gives learners an overview of American juvenile justice in terms of both system and practice. It examines the juvenile offender, causes of juvenile crime, the juvenile court system, and juveniles in the adult court system. The program also looks at the institutionalization, rehabilitation, and treatment of juveniles, and the future of juvenile justice in America. Paralegals play one of the most important roles in the legal industry. Though individual attorneys are ultimately responsible for the legal work they produce and the strategies they devise, many tasks – from legal research and writing, source citing, filing, and others – are delegated to paralegals. The term of apprenticeship consists of four years or 8,000 hours (approximately 2,000 hours per year) of on - the - job training, and four years or 576 hours (144 hours per year) of related classroom instruc-

tion. OJT is administered by the student ’ s employer. Related classroom instruction is administered by CATEC.

Online Apprenticeship Offerings

CATEC offers the full selection of apprenticeship classes in an online format. The virtual component grants completers the full 144 related technical instruction hours per year if students maintain a 70% ( C ) or above. Some employers require students maintain a B average, so please check with your employer to confirm their requirements. Courses available online include: Carpentry 1 - 4, Electrical 1 - 4, HVAC 1 - 4, Plumbing 1 - 4, Construction Technology, Building Maintenance and OSHA. Apprentice - related instruction is the “ classroom ” portion of apprenticeship and is an integral part of an apprenticeship program. It provides each apprentice with the theoretical and technical knowledge - base necessary to become a successful journeyworker. The National Apprenticeship and Training Standards require that a minimum of 144 hours per year of apprenticeship–related instruction be provided to each apprentice in related and supplementary subjects. CATEC programs are approved by DOLI.

All ONLINE Year 1 – 4 courses include required textbooks and e - Book. $1125.

We also offer OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 for Construction or General Industry training in a fully virtual platform. Study and complete at your own pace! Students will receive a certificate of completion and their official plastic OSHA 10 or 30 Department of Labor wallet card upon completion. See page 27 for more information.

Carpenters make up the largest building trades occupation in the industry and those with all - around skills are in high demand. Carpenters are involved in many different kinds of construction activities, from building highways and bridges to installing kitchen cabinets. Carpenters construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures made from wood and other materials. Construction Technology

HVAC mechanics and installers work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings.
